Don't update, else you may not have your wii u hacked for a long time since it may take time to find a new webkit exploit. It's really close to being hacked now.

No one can say for sure "how close" it is "hacked" (Technically it has been hacked for a very long time now)
Its really up to you.
For me its a no brainer. Id much rather have dlc and online play rather than sitting around waiting, hoping for something out of the hombrew scene.
Even when/if a public exploit is released, there will be very little you can do with it. Its going to take A LOT of time.

Update and play Super Smash. The game is awesome and you want the DLC. Games are supposed to be fun and your console's top priority are games. Homebrew is awesome but the games are the point.

I went ahead and updated. I'm not too worried about the webkit bug patch. I mean yeah it means we have to wait longer, but I'm sure another bug will be found. As long as the kernel exploit is not patched you should be good. I would say update if you don't mind waiting for a new webkit bug.

I let Wii U update because I like using it.

I sure missed out with my PS3, sure I can play pirated games and homebrew, but I never went online with it. That's the last time I trade online abilities for piracy.

Hmmm, shouldn't update but wait for a firmware spoofer?

Mario Maker and most newer games will have 5.4.0 for sure.
I'll wait for a firmware spoofer.

It's webkit, there are a ton of exploitable bugs. (even with most recent webkit which we aren't on)
The hard part is exploiting said bug. Take my word for it. There are many bugs to which memory write is enabled. It's just figuring out you take control of the write process.
I can't tell you to update because a new exploit has been written, but I can tell you a new one will be....
And if I am not mistaken to patch the kernel would take an awfully large update..(which we didn't get)
The only thing this update did was patch open ssl. (and all the apps that use it)
I think they think TVii was the entrypoint....lol (either that or it didn't fare well with new open open ssl)
Either way this new updated webkit has way more bugs than 5.3.2
And this is probably gonna happen a ton faster than 5.3.2. So if you so choose to update then I say do it. (But really who am I to say so??)

Do not update. Seriously.
Exactly the same situation happened for 3DS, people updated expecting another exploit and it was not until years later that something came for recent firmwares.
Until there's confirmation that there IS a new webkit bug found for 5.4, DO NOT BOTHER, it's not safe, the bug is close to being released, be patient. Patient people are rewarded, remember that.

That's because 3DS modders are scrubs and have to rely on a flashcart to even do anything. Along with the browser apparently being way more awful.

you realize that the wii u will be hacked regardless of the firmware. you might have to wait 3 years
The best solution is to have 2 of them. one for legit up to date firmware, and one on a lower firmware to use for the exploits. then you don't have to worry about it. and i don't want to hear you cant afford it. look at the money wasted on cellphone bills. 3-4 months and you got a second wii u.

So update and don't worry about it. If you really care then get a second wii u.
all consoles get hacked.

Exactly. A used console only can be bought for $100 or even less if you spend put a little effort on eBay. Even mowing a small lawn fetches $25. I would gladly pay a kid to mow my lawn in July, there just aren't any willing to do it.

I was bit impatient and spent $101 for one delivered and even came with all the cables and WWHD on it. I just updated it and all the games and any dlc I wanted and then absolutely no internet connection at all. Works great for a few tracks of MK8 before nodding off.

Actually, on Old 3DS, if you are on 9.2 or lower, you don't need a flashcard, or even cubic ninja anymore.
