Oh hey, pretty interesting to see stuff like this! That's a lot of information about WC24 right there. :)
I found this thread by looking for information about the earth.brres.LZ file. Finally a little tutorial about how to change it to earth.brres and making it editable, but, is there also a way to convert back to earth.brres.LZ ?? Apparently the Earth model in Mario Kart Wii (which I want to change) appears to be the same as from the other Earth models, interesting how they used the same model all over again. :P
 
Is there any way to restore functionality to the weather channel? At least to even restore access to the globe?

So I had found this to be interesting. Enough so decided to write a little app to at least send the captured files to the Wii(successfully). Unlike what is stated above, the forecast channel(at least on my Wii) does attempt to reconnect to my app, as I log the request to it. It still gives the same error though FORE000006. News channel works though. So I tried setting the Calendar back in time, no luck there either. My thought on that was perhaps it is "time sensitive" and I still think that is what the error means. Prior to the channel shut downs I had that error a couple times and in both cases they would resolve in a couple days. Seems the Wii tries to connect above every 30 minutes to my server looking for "news" and "weather".

Anyway, if you are interested you can find that code on my github djr4488.

Did anyone get any packet dumps of them receiving a message on wc24? Leseratte and I are trying to make WC24 a thing again and our prob atm is the check.cgi, and that was the only unsecured part of wc24 mail - if anyone has dumps please PM me
 
Like emsef Im here to state my support too. I don't know a thing so I cant help, but I'd love to see homebrew game servers running!

UPDATE : I just noticed that it already exists :P

what about Wiimmfi http://wiimmfi.de/
is that for Nintendo Wii Chanels too? (I just can't understand why they won't give their Source Code to the comunity)

PS: Thats great that we can actualy do chanel restoration our selves not just to connect to some server that doesn't even gave source code (like wiimmfi)

Here's why they wont: THEY MADE IT. Wiimmfi, I can tell you, was made by packet dumps, not Gamespy's server code.

You can set your own forecast channel server up IIRC.

If you don't want to wait check my WiiConnect24 replacements in my signature. I've set it up for your browser. It looks just like the original channels, and you can even spin that globe that we all know and love. :)

I'm working on doing all of the stuff you asked for.

I already download Brawl345's dumps and put them on http://wc24.mariocube.com last night...

You guys can change your DNS to 168.235.71.66 to download the News Channel dumps, AwesomeMarioFan (the TC) never updated it but both of us got everything working on our site. :)

@PokeAcer - There's some things with the Forecast Channel not working, thanks to some RSA signatures and how it seems to download differently than the News Channel.

Also, everything's not on Wiimmfi, but you can patch the Wii Speak Channel to use Wiimmfi on it... Google is your friend for this one. :)

The Everybody Votes Channel polls are up as well.

Wii Speak Channel isn't working yet on Wiimmfi due to SAKE server needing an upgrade. I also have a WC24 server at 185.99.132.59 DNS :D Sadly, I cannot get a copy of Everybody Votes D: - looks like no ticket on Ninty's Servers. I've got the ZIPs, so hopefully we can try to fix.
@Larsenv do you have any packet dumps of receiving mail (check.cgi) on wc24 when it was up? @leseratte and I are trying to re-create WC24 fully :D
EDIT: @Larsenv your WC24 server is replying 404 - duplicate all 049 folders and rename the dupes '110' because my wii looks for 110

Nintendo is still sending out announcement mails via WC24. I'll see if I can get a packet capture of the Wii receiving the announcement emails in a bit.

Yeah, announcements are BIN files, not sent via check.cgi
Question: what URL does it use for bin dl.
Also, @Larsenv my everybody votes doesn't show new polls, why?
