In a moment of stupidity, I've placed both my brother's backed up NAND in the same folder as my own, and don't remember which is which. I know flashing the wrong NAND is bad, but I'm wondering if the Gateway menu will stop me if the wrong file is selected? Not keen on trying myself in case it doesn't.

Do you at least remember which system you backed up first? If you know that you can just look at the file properties and see which was created earlier.

look at the date and time the files were created by going to the file, right hand clicking it and goto properties, if you can remember which nand you dumped first, yours or ya bros then the dates will tell you.

fucking ninja'd lol

I remember which I did first, but the timestamps are the same, which I assume is because I copied them from another folder. Definitely different files as the md5 don't match.

Try creating and running an emuNAND with it. No chance of bricking and if you use the wrong NAND, the emunand just won't boot so you should be able to tell that way.
You should be able to use this to make an emunand out of the nand.bin file: https://gbatemp.net/threads/emunand-tool-release-and-support-thread.359239/

I should have thought of this first. Thanks!

psp was a really good paperweight and brick!
a 3ds (or gbasp\ds console) is for use as paper clip!

Fortunately a great majority of PSP's could be unbricked very easily - this is not the case with the 3DS. :P

EDIT: I've just had an epiphany, bache. If you don't know which file's which and your brother's 3DS' NAND contents have not changed since the dump was made, dump it again and compare it to the two images you already have in the hex editor. It should be relatively easy to determine which one's which by just looking at the file's contents.

I dearly miss my PSP. So much less risk involved.
Anyway, I have one NAND file that boots in emuNAND, and one that doesn't. It would be safe to assume that the one that doesn't boot is the one for my brother's console, yes?

I would say so, yes. Gee, I didn't think of that! :rofl2:

You didn't make your own Pandora battery? DON'T TOUCH ME YOU FILTHY CASUAL :rofl2:
I didn't make my own Pandora battery either even though I know how to make one - why would I slice open an original (and expensive) Sony battery instead of buying a cheap no-name TOOL battery? It makes no sense to me at all, I want my original accessories to be in good shape. :P
