with gateway 4.x it didn't work for me.
So I used rop Multiloader to install "homebrew 4.x" instead of "gateway 4.x" you need to do this to run the launcher.dat (not launcher_GW.dat) from the CFW_Folder
your not following....don't use the multirop loader at all.. run the gw_installer.nds. You know.....the orig exploit you run with the blue card or ds cart....

Well I installed rop loader and booted the cfw with the other launcher, and got the same results-failed to connect. I'm going to try gio's cfw now and see what happens. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll just give up.

I tried your method but I keep getting the failed to connect error. I tried the steps mentioned in this thread (turning wifi off and on, opening internet browser) but the cfw just crashes. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.
where is the bat file?thanks

no no don't give up....stay with palantines cfw.

I tried for 2 weeks and it wouldn't connect either. Finally I realized I kept getting the update nag after the cfw rebooted. I thought maybe the nag was interfering with the wifi so I formatted the sysnand to get rid of it.
Afterward I recreated my profile and redid the internet settings. I triggered the cfw exploit and after the reboot I didn't get the nag. I hit the bat file and BANG it was over before I knew what happened.
I didn't have anything to lose by formatting the sysnand either so I gave it a go.

Maybe you should try that...Lots of people are having issues as far as the installation of the devmenu...maybe a sysnand format is the solution.

oh eject the sdcard before the format

I guess I could try this since I could always restore my NAND in case it doesn't work.

Wait do I have to reinstall roploader/gwinstaller after I format the sysnand?

Not reinstall but rerun. If you eject the sdcard before the format you should be good. Just reinsert the sdcard. rerun the gw_installer. load the profile exploit to trigger the cfw and on reboot run the bat file.

Make sure the devmenu cia is in the same directory as the bat file

Another question, if I format the sysnand and then do a nand restore would I have access to all my eshop titles? Or does formatting the sysnand mean losing no matter what?

sorry, you'll lose them unless you can log back in to the eshop to redownload them but on a 4.5 cfw, I don't see that happening
I didn't have any eshop downloads so it didn't matter to me...

Would my saves at least stay intact?

A format is a wipe....I don't think any user data on the sysnand survives sorry. Im not very familiar with the 3ds features. maybe you can transfer saves...idk

What your setup and do you have a gateway

I don't have gateway but I do have a cheap ds flashcart. What I mean is if I backup my NAND before formatting, would I be able to regain everything lost if I were to restore my NAND backup. Thanks for answering all of my questions btw

I don't know if the reinstall of your nand dump restores everything. I've never reflashed a dump before. sorry. But my best guess would be yes....and your welcome. what f/w are you on

Little off-topic, but currently the only DS mode Flashcart I have is a Games 'n Music DS.

Is there a patch to make it work on 4.2? I launch the cart and an error occurs :(

Well that's good to know.
I'm on 4.2, I downgraded from 9.2 yesterday. I think formatting might be the solution since my 3ds had already downloaded the latest update and was constantly nagging me to install it. Although after downgrading it hasn't seemed to ask me to update anymore.
Anyway I'm going to format right now, I'll report my results asap.

I just looked that up. I doubt you'll find anything to help with that cart
