It probably wouldn't be cheaper. Retail stores here charge top dollar and usually their "sale" price is what you could get online, but not by much.

I only suggest it if say places online sell out, or people can't buy from certain site etc.

FF Explorers drops in Japan on the 18th. My big hope is that if Nintendo releases an update before I get my console on the ~16th, I can just buy it and update to 9.2. Though maybe the update will only affect NinjaHax anyway.

Nobody can say for sure that FF Explorers contains a 9.2 update. :/

That's why I called it a hope. It's the right time period but of course there's absolutely no way of knowing until it's released. Can you imagine if it's 8.x but Sonic, which is an absolutely horrible game, is the 9.x we need to buy?

You could always rent it, or buy it (preferably used, the last thing we want is Sega thinking that we want a Sonic Boom 2) and then resell it.

It's hard to imagine a trans-pacific video game rental company. Maybe I could order it off Amazon.co.jp, say it's garbage and return it? Maybe that'd be Sega's best sales option though, make hackable games.

I actually enjoyed the 3DS version. It was different, but I don't really regret buying it.

The Wii U version though? It's... horrible. I've always been there for the series. '06, Unleashed, you name it - I was behind Sonic 100%. But... this? The resolution is abysmal, there are WAY too many pop-ins going on, and it's just really disappointing.

Also Amy's mouth looks weird.

Is why We need a Japanese game with 9.X, Sonic Boom isn't out yet in Japan and theoretically could. We're just joking that we might have to buy a game that's universally panned for being terrible just for the upgrade - like Cubic Ninja but worse.

Eh. I tried playing it but had to stop as I couldn't stand it. Though I admittedly played only the first four or so levels, so maybe it gets better after that.

Yeah, the JP New 3DS LLs come at 8.x and Gateway lists only 9.x working right now. All of us who have ordered them in from Japan might not be able to use Gateway if Nintendo drops an incompatible updated before them without a game to update with like that.

Yep. This is what a lot of people do with 1.0 3DS's. If you have a game like Animal Crossing NL or (I think) Luigi's Mansion, since they packaged the update with the ROM you can use that game to update to only 4.5.

That's the idea, but I don't think there have been any games released that have a 9.X update on the cart. I think the highest update released to retail is 8.1
