Use the Gateway exploit/launcher to backup your nand/format emunand.

Nope, you just need a ds flashcart (to install the exploit) and you 3ds sd card (where you put the launcher).

So let me get this strait:
I downloaded this http://govanify.x10host.com/_files/3DS_CFW.7z
Put it in the SD Card (The files inside the 3DS_Stuff folder in the root), reboot the console, press L in the DS Profile Settings, nothing happens.

Use the gateway launcher to create the emunand partition on your sd card :
http://www.gateway-3ds.com/downloads/
- Execute "gw_installer.nds" wuth a nds flashcart to install the exploit
- Backup your sd card data
- Put the launcher.dat file on your sd card
- press L in the DS Profile Settings to go to the gw menu
- Select Format Emunand then Backup Nand

Then follow the instructions.
