Well I think we now know how they're blocking Gateway out. If I had to hazard a guess, they're going to eventually drop support on the regular 3DS. Regardless, this seems like a horrible move for the general fanbase. It doesn't look too good when you basically give your customers the middle finger and force them to upgrade to play new games.

This isn't to block a flashcart that barely works, it's to force people to rebuy their console.

It's a horribly cheap move.

if you buy the new system there is no reason why you should update your firmware on the new one. instead of blocking gateway they finally made a version that is worth spending money on while having a old version used for GW.
It doesn't block GW at all.

In short, it brought the most new content to the franchise and was able to expand on the game formula before it got stale.

Platinum is a runner up though.

The DSi had EXCLUSIVE FEATURES but we could play all of its games on the other DS (at least to my knowledge (the ones that matter?)).
