I've played/tested Tomodachi Life, Nintendo Football Club and One Piece: Unlimited World Red (worked before on 7.1 emunand for me) and all work fine as far as i can tell. Don't have Pokemon Art Academy to test that.
Aye, the point is that they (presumably) won't work on GW3D 4.1-4.5 with firmware spoofing, they'll require at least 7.0 installed to EmuNAND.

Strange that Nintendo didn't try to detect/erase launcher.dat on SD lol...
yeah but stuff like that is generally a bit pointless gateway already have kernel access so they can bypass anything like that happening....but im still surprised that nintendo didn't at least try it , another good one would be having the home screen unmount the SD card....again gateway could probably prevent it happening but it would atleast force gateway to have to keep issuing a update for each firmware update nintendo release

but if the encryption would of worked like nintendo would of hoped it would of been the ultimate endgame for them to limit piracy to older games

After updating to 8.1 and downloading some free programs(youtube) from the eShop while in emunand mode I noticed after a restart of the console they also appeared on the SystemNand.
But an error pops up when I'm trying to start them, it says i should re-download the software from the eShop
Additionally if I enter the settings on EmuNand, then exit out to the SystemNand, then go again into Emunand, the downloaded apps were gone and I needed to re-download them from the eShop :O

Does anyone know whats happening here and if this is normal?

yeah its kinda normal, they should appear on your sysnand but be unplayable, but they should only get deleted if you go into data management in sysnand

if you prefer this not to happen you can either format your sysnand or your emunand in system settings....once you do this they will have separate content folders on the SD card so content from one wont show up in the other

Thanks I did not know that, probably I was in data management settings on SysNand

When Public gateway 2.3 or whatever number comes out. I think it would be great if the news post that has it, has a link to how to update emunand to assist people. So that they don't brick their 3ds

EDIT: Beta is now in the wild. Common sense should tell you not to leak it here but this is the Internet so I'm reminding you now: DO NOT LINK FILES HERE OR GIVE ARBITRARY HINTS TO WHERE IT IS!
This should answer your question, also asking for a PM with a download is forbidden I think...

so I don't know why, but I was playing Mario Golf. I was online to check for updates and such. And everytime I finish the first hole, I get an error message.

it did prompt me to download an update for the free-trial DLC I got awhile back. maybe that has something to do with it. I'm using the latest emunand.

deleting the DLC doesn't fix it. Forest course hole 1 complete, everytime it's an error. Maybe I have a bad file...

Man this whole emunand/real nand business is confusing, think I'll just wait for the final release.

Good job I'm not interested in any of the 8.x encrypted games, but does anyone know about smash bros and what firmware that will require?

smash bros will almost certainly be using 7.x encryption, nobody will really know what the minimum FW will be, but it will most likely be 7.2-8.1 (its possible the US/EU version might be higher.....just depends on how long before release a game is finalized and manufacturing begins)

I'm pretty pleased with the release because I have been wanting to try out Yokai Watch 2.

It made my day as I could finally transfer out my Account to a non-GW 3DS. Thank you GW (also to whoever who leaked it).

Some one could help me is it possible to move the SD card(with emunanad) data to another (larger SD)with out going through the whole system update thing?

basically
1. extract the current emunand using that tool from the old SD
2. insert the new SD card and pick format emunand on the gateway menu
3. overwrite the freshly setup emunand with the one you extracted from the old SD card
4. copy all the files over to the new SD card
done

The final release will probably be the same.

It's not so confusing. The console itself (SysNAND/Real NAND) must always be firmware 4.1 to 4.5. This is obvious, otherwise Gateway would not work. However, within Gateway mode you can install newer firmwares (up to 8.x). This is because it is EmuNAND thus not installing to the console itself, merely to Gateway mode. Previously this was entirely optional because the Gateway has firmware spoofing anyway. However, newer games are beginning to require components from newer firmwares. This is not a problem for Gateway users as the newest 8.x can now be installed to EmuNAND (i.e. Gateway mode).

It just means that firmware spoofing may no longer be enough for newer games from now, so installing 8.x to EmuNAND (Gateway mode) will become recommended.

So there's a good chance that right on release day smash bros will be playable?

i think what confuses people is that there are 4 different things that can be talked about in different combinations, basically there is
standard sysnand = just when you boot up the console
gateway mode, sysnand = running roms but using the 3ds's own nand as the running enviroment
classic mode, sysnand = running games that require 4.x+ FW on the 4.x system nand
gateway mode, emunand = running roms from the emunand enviroment
classic mode, emunand = running retail carts from the emunand enviroment

i think some get confused about thinking gateway mode = emunand, and that classic mode = system nand.....they don't each one is its own separate thing

So there's a good chance that right on release day smash bros will be playable?
the japanese version...almost defiantly assuming there isn't any new sort of AP implemented....we will have to wait and see about the US/EU release as they are still a good while off

Yep this pretty much sums up my confusion, thanks for posting that though that's helpful! I'm just limited to wanting to play up to date roms so any other talk of different modes just confuses me!
Glad to hear that about smash bros, I'd be down for playing the jp version

Pff i always keep having troubles updating to a new firmware.
Put all the files to blue card and dat file tot 3ds SD.
Booted up with blue card and installed.
Then reboot system, profile...
Now i already tried format emunand and i already tried boot gateway mode ( but nothing updates)
Any ideas?

once your in emunand (go to system settings and check it says GW3D instead of Ver. on the system version), then simply update from system settings to 8.1

I think the best way for people to think about it is to know that they can update firmware within Gateway mode (and only Gateway mode) and if they've not done so yet, will probably have to at some point. That's much easier than explaining all the different modes that aren't relevant.
