Gotta be honest with you, this WiiU controller situation is bull. I saw Project M made some huge strides and thought about playing it to get my game back before Smash4 comes out. Then I find that it can't use the WiiU pro controller. You can get an adapter for old school gamecube controllers or buy one of those junk variations they offer (like Classic or Wiimote).

But no matter what you get you won't be using the same one with Smash4. Gotta buy a whole different set for that.

I thought about trying to run Nintendont and setting up non-Nintendo controllers but I'm not sure I can run them alongside the ProjectM launcher. Basically this would be 300x easier if I just pirated and emulated the game on a computer. Nintendo is punishing its customers and incentivizing piracy.

I'll just be using the GamePad because it's what I use for everything related to the Wii U and it's compatible with it all.

Sucks that the official Pro Controller doesn't have any triggers instead it's digital buttons. :-/

WiiU Pro Controller is for the Wii U games only. Project M is based on the SSMB which is the good old Wii (not U) game & support only appropriate controllers available on the release date: GC, WiiMote, Classic (Pro). They (Big N) just wouldn't rerelease this game only to support WiiU Pro device as well as an all legacy supported controllers (i'm not 100% sure but assume it). Just use supported pads or wait for the next official Brawl game where you, for sure, could play with your WiiU Pro Controller or Wii Classic Controller / WiiMote+Nunchuck.

I enjoyed playing Brawl with the Wiimote only but given the chance to play with a controller that has more buttons, I'd rather take that instead.

Wii games don't (and likely never will) make use of Wii U controllers (be it the pro controller or the Gamepad). Maybe one day hacking will allow for the Wii U specific controllers to be used for Wii games, but really this isn't something that one should complain about. I mean it would be like playing the Zelda Collector disk on the Gamecube and then complaining that you can't use your N64 controller on the Gamecube.

I personally like playing brawl with a Wiimote and Nunchuck attachment. It has enough controls (aside from the smash stick, but I got to be real good without the smash stick, (and no I didn't make use of the waggle for a quick smash as I would often accidentally smash when i didn't want to because of it, so I'd turn that off)).

Most of these comments make it clear that I'm not being understood. Let me clarify.

I'm not saying the WiiU should play with Gamecube controllers or anything like that. I'm complaining that the Pro controller isn't compatible for software that can be run on the system the controller was designed for. They may be Wii games but they're running on WiiU hardware and should accept WiiU inputs. I know they don't. But they should.

There's no controller overlap between Brawl and Smash4 (except for playing Smash with a Wiimote which are terrible for anyone who actually wants to play the game well).

Wii software runs in Wii Mode, it's literally a virtualized Wii environment and the Wii does not support the Wii U's controller - it's plain and simple. To include support for the controller, Nintendo would have to add an additional driver to vWii. That would require work and a well thought-out design, and that's just silly, why would Nintendo do such things? ;O;
