Ihs there any way to somehow fake a firmware number higher than 4.5?
I recently bought a 3ds with a firmware less than 4.5, and it just so happened I bought the 3ds during the free pokemon x y game. I really want to get the x y game, but I can't even download the x y game because I cant go to the nintendo eshop to buy it, because I would have to do a 3ds system update to access the eshop, which would ultimately raise my firmware number! Im still a newbie at much of the tech knowledge, so I dont know much about emunand or exploits or whatever. Ive heard that I could trick the 3ds into thinking that its a higher firmware, but its still truly firmware 4.5. so..... Hpw can I do this guys?? Are there any other strategies other than faking the firmware?

Download the gateway launcher and run the emunand setup tool. you don't need a gateway card to do it, and you'll be able to use the eshop without having to update your real system menu. I can send you a link if you need one.

You need a DS mode flashcart that can run on 4.5 to run the initial gateway exploit though.

EDIT: An R4i Gold should do the trick.

I am kind of having a similar problem; people suggested that I use mt firmware to access emunand for as long as I want. BUt wont that brick my console because the gateway card will detect a launcher other than its original launcher?

what if i keep the mt card firmware on my gateway card and running on my 3ds, and say I am safe from a brick. What about if I decide to return back to 2.0b2, will I brick?

Im pretty sure you have it wrong.

Firmware: The code that is on the hardware of the card. Ex: MT-CARD 1.1 update through USB.

Launcher: The code launched from the exploit. Has NOTHING to do with the card.


The MT-CARD launcher will allow you to access your gateway emuNAND just fine. It wont cause a brick, and has region-free for legit carts.
I'm wondering why you are using 2.0b2, and asking about MT-CARD bricking you. 2.0b2 has full emuNAND support and can access the eShop as well (from classic menu). The MT-Card launcher is actually safer. The only downside to using the mt-card launcher is your Gateway wont play ROMs while using it. For roms you would have to switch the launcher back.

Long story short: If you are using a Gateway Card with GW 2.0b2, and don't need region free retail carts, why even try to use MT-Card launcher?

well if you arent using the gateway card at the time and you feel like not risking the brick code, you may as well use MT launcher.....safest combo would be MT for eshop/retail carts and b1 for gateway roms....then your pretty much free from any chance of bricking but can still use eshop etc

I have a similar doubt here.
Got a 3Dslink(3.0 launcher right now,with no emunand partition,supposed safe ) i want to play retail pokemon cartigde from my own region.
Ive read that emunand isnt stable and can cause bricks with that launcher,assuming i just want emunand for play pokemon,it is safe? Or maybe, ill should use mt launcher to do emunand and play retail? In that case,should I get 2 SD,for emunad and the other with my current launcher?

I just placed the 1.1 mt launcher on my sd card. I plan to download pokemon x and just use the mt card launcher for emunand and later on if 2.0 comes out, ill just update to that.

I'm pretty sure the Pokemon save issue will be resolved in time, Im not dying to play it, so why even bother trying to get it this way?

Why not? It's free, iirc they give you a download code, you may be able to sell the code if you don't want it. But I'm nit aure tbh you could at least sell the club nintendo codes to someone who wants pokemon for cheaper

Yeah, That's a good idea.

So the reason why I am hesitant, is I don't register my stuff often. I save it up until NintendoClub offers something I really want, and then I mass register and get that thing. The last time I did that I got the Game & Watch handheld from them, plus the free platinum prize. I wasnt paying close attention and missed the 3DS XL dock.... And that's really why I don't want to register stuff. If they offer that Dock again, I want to jump on that.

Maybe sell the codes, then once the promotion is over buy replacement codes so you don't miss out on future club nintendo promotions, you would still likely be in profit from the process XD

Yeah, if you have emunand setup, you can use pretty much all features except poke bank, and youtube
