Hardware Why make a console that is backwards compatible ?

Well that's a drag... I was hoping the vWii wouldn't be sandboxed like it is, but rather more integrated like how Sony did theirs with PS1 and PS2, where the PS1 games could be upscaled and filtered. Wii games pulling off 4xAA @720p would be sweeeeeeet.
PS1 is emulated, both in PS2 (only GPU is emulated) and PS3. For PS3, PS2 game feeds graphics to RSX rather than directly outputed. In both cases, it is possible to improve graphics.

Again, force 480p and let TV do upscaling if original Wii looks better than vWii.

From my experiences, TV upscaling is pretty fugly... Unless things have gotten better since 2008, when I bought my 1080p HDTV.
Upscaling used to be more important before, but your options were either a dedicated upscaler box or a high end TV with one built-in if you wanted a good quality picture. Nowadays more sources are HD so a good upscaler chip is not necessary on a TV anymore. I have a 2012 Sony BRAVIA TV 46" HX-series that cost an arm and a leg. It's beautiful when fed HD input, but with SD material it's similar to those cheap 24" Samsung "TVs" that look like computer displays. In other words, garbage.

That is actually how I see it. BC makes the system more expensive and that is obviously why Sony and MS don't do it. Their focus is purely on graphics which drives up the cost of the system like crazy.

It only makes it more expensive if the new console changes architectures. PS3's backwards compatibility with PS2 required extra hardware, but the Wii U is built on the same architecture as the Wii, so they get cheap compatibility by way of virtual machine. If they had changed to a different CPU architecture, then backwards compatibility would increase the cost of the console due to extra hardware required.

Well if you really want pretty graphics on TV you have to spend quite a bit. XRGB-Mini for example, a recommended upscaler in retro community, cost $350+ per unit. It does beat pretty much every TV in terms of upscaling.

How well TV upscales varies. Many TV tends to use cheap scaler chip, so SD content looks crap on it.

Oh, like the PS Vita.
Oh I saw that Sony revealed PlayStation Now for PS Vita... erm.. where are the actual games for Vita? Nowhere to be found, that's for sure.

OH SNAP! TEARS INCOMING! ;O;

Sorry, that should be changed to "no good gaemz". If it has so many, why isn't it outselling the 3DS?
Because luxurious and refined goods are not for the unenlightened gray masses. ;O;

Also "implying the N64 has a lot of good games. Or the 3DS for that matter". ;O;

I am just going to point out that the Vita count of 464 games include digital only games, with all shovelware and short/cheap games included. Also, quantity is not the same as quality.

Ah yes, all the quality 3DS games... like... Monster Hunter 3, Pokemon, Shin Megami Tensei IV... and... Uhm... Err... :tpi:

And mind you, I have both systems. They both have some things going for them. PSVita criticism is, for the most part, completely unwarranted and as the scholars say, "Once you go PSV, you never go back" or something along those lines.

Besides, you're all missing my point by miles. I was merely pointing out that the games are there and if you want the platform to develop further, consider buying one before criticising the supposed lack of content.

[Third World Problems] I don't have enough money to buy legit games for more than one system.

Is this really necessary? 3DS has a bunch of shovelware too. Shovelware is inevitable on each system.

That said, Vita does have some good games. WiiCube_2013 said Vita has no game because he never try Vita in person.

And that's your personal problem. Your point?

Hey, Foxi!
The 3DS is a damn good Pokemon machine!
(Only game I play on my 3DS nowadays)
I know, right? Finished Y recently, now I'm filling up the National Pokedex.

As for the conversation at hand, I forecast more clouds and tearfall. "All those games are ports!" blunder and crythning are to be expected, however they will be mostly muffled due to collective Wind Wanker HD, Metal Gear Solid 15FPS Edition: Frames Eater, StarFox 64 Polygons On-Screen and Ocarina of 14-Year-Old-Game gobbling. Tune in later in the evening for more on weather! ;O;

The fun part about having a PSVita is that I haven't bought a game for it in months and I still have a huge backlog to go through "because PSPlus". Man, Iove this system. :wub:

You missed my point. I didn't say 3DS had no shovelware nor that the Vita had a bunch of shovelware. I said digital only games contained a lot of shovelware...

And that's your personal problem. Your point?
I am just gonna ignore that one

Yeah, I think I'll just keep my opinions regarding the 3DS vs Vita to myself, seeing how this debate is nonproductive and going nowhere. Besides, I never said anything about the N64, where the hell did you get that from? Just because you don't like the 3DS, doesn't reflect the general consensus of the 3DS as a whole. I have my reasons for not liking the Vita as you have your reasons for not liking the 3DS.

I was just randomly posting a games list of a console which is considered to be somewhat legendary among the Nintendo-friendly crowds to demonstrate a point - had I posted the Wii U's games list, it would quickly turn into a mockery. ;)

In any case, you can't say that a dessert tastes sour before you taste it - the PSVita has quite a nice library as it is and here's for hoping that it will continue to grow, the same can be said about the Wii U, albeit to a slightly lesser extent due to low third-party interest at the moment.
