I was attempting to update my 3DS today, it installed the update most of the way and then failed and restarted. Now I have this problem:

Any ideas?

So, uh, what firmware were you updating from, exactly? That would help a lot in determining whether or not something is wrong.

Edit: Better yet, use your fingers and adequately explain the issue so that somebody may offer you help. Nobody here is going to know what version your 3DS was, exactly what your specific home screen looked like, or anything like it.

I was on the version number listed, 6.3.0-12U, attempting to update to the latest, which is 7.X.X? I have the features of that update, specifically MiiVerse and NNID, but the version number did not change.

Have you tried maybe restarting the firmware update?

All that seems to do is fail and tell me to restart. I've been trying that for a good while now, but I'll keep at it.

Edit: To be exact
"An error has occurred.
Unable to update.
The system will now be restarted."

If all else fails, you may have to send it to Nintendo because the firmware update failed and has apparently corrupted a handful of things, or wait for the next update and see if that fixes it. Knowing Nintendo though, it would be leagues faster to just send your 3DS in.

Edit: Oh, also, consider that Nintendo's servers may still be under heavy load. Your error may be coming from Nintendo's end rather than your own. Try again tomorrow if it won't work tonight and see if that makes a difference. If it still won't update correctly, Nintendo is probably the only one who can help you unless you're sitting on an NAND backup and somebody to mod your 3DS for you.

For now, until an actual problem presents itself, I'm not going to bother with sending it to Nintendo. Games play fine. Only thing is I can't connect to the eShop, but from what I can tell neither can anyone else so I doubt that is caused by this update issue.

Edit: I take that back. I finally succeeded in opening the eShop and it told me there's a System Update...which means it definitely still thinks I'm on the old version. What a crock. I'll keep attempting to update. Then maybe I'll send to Nintendo if it doesn't resolve itself by the end of the week.

SOMG NEW 3DS XPLOIT CONFIRMED!!

Well tour 3DS seems pretty bad, it may be unable to do future updates, so I would send it to Nintendo if I were you ;)
