I have a question about all the talk of Gateway supporting Pokemon x/y. Are we referring to roms or carts or both? I also recall someone saying that they were using a retail without saves issues....

I plan on just buying a brand new copy of Pokemon y and using that. Will that be supported with 2.0b2 (assuming 2.0b2 just adds emuNAND support for 7.1)?

I'm wondering If I'll have to wait for Gateway to solve this "NAND save issue" I'm hearing so much about before I can play my retail cart of Pokemon Y.

EDIT Thanks everyone for your input so far and being awesome :)

I was able to play the Pokemon X retail cart with the latest emuNAND installed and was not prompted for an update. I don't know if the save function is working, nor do I know if online is working. I know that if I start the game with the wifi connected it want's to download an update for the game, which I haven't done.

edit - I just did a save from in the game and it worked fine, I was able to exit the game and start from the save point. There's no guarantee that future nintendo updates will not block the gateway or the emunand.

I'm assuming the update you're referring to is the 1.2 patch for pokemon x/y and not a system update. Is this correct?

Yea, it's an update for the game. Since I'm using an emuNAND that's already been updated then I will not see an update prompt to update the 3ds firmware. I can turn on the wifi once the game has started and do not see a prompt to update the game.

Yeah, pokemon X/Y works like a charm in emunand. I have an emunand 6.3 and before the 7.0 update I've downloaded the 1.1 patch for pokemon and online works perfectly. Just keep in mind that right now there is no way to play online, that I know. This is because you need the 1.2 pokemon update to play online, but for that you have to update the system... and with that the eshop breaks on emunand so we are stuck. But gateway is comming with their update and should solve all that and we are back with full emunand work.

By the way, keep in mind that with a brand new retail card your save will only work on gateway's 3ds's. If you try to insert your pokemon Y (with save from emunand) in an original (non gateway) 3ds it will say the save is corrupt and will erase it... Same in reverse.

So, when on emunand, the save doesn't write to the retail cart?

Does the game update write to the emunand or the retail cart?

Yes, it is written on the retail cart, I was mentioning that the save on the cart WILL only work on emunand, not on original firmwares

Yeah I heard about this as well. I heard that the save was just seen as corrupt, and not deleted.

Well, If I were to ever transfer to a 3ds (I'd have a 3ds dedicated to carts) the pokebank would probably work for transferring pokemon; so I'm not too worried about that.

I guess all there is to do now is wait for 2.0b2 to come out (and for my gateway to arrive :P)

So what if you use a retail pokemon x on emunand and then use it on a 3ds for legit purposes, will a new save be create on the retail 3ds and overwrite the emunand save?

YES, that is because when emunand saves, it uses the key of 4.X (your real firmware) that is not compatible with the Key from 6.X and above... and also I dont know how pokebank is gonna work, maybe you wont be able to retrieve an old pokemons from an old save... by the way I have no idea if there is a login or something like that to keep your pokemons.

so basicly Pokebank should not work, because I think it read Save and if it try to read 4.X KEy Save it would not work?

All I know is that we'll need the latest emuNAND version to download the pokebank app on 3ds; also the poketransporter app thing to transfer gen V pokemon into the bank. I'm not sure about the login system, I haven't thought about that. I guess we'll have to wait and see and hope things work well.

I don't play pokemon, but I bought a new 3ds and pokemon x as a gift for my daughter, and she will be using it the legit method. Just trying to get some info on what I can do concerning hax. So 50 hours of legit playing on legit firmware is bad to use on emunand, I'll remember not to do that.

But probably in the future, the save can be dumped from a retail cart and used with game backup rom and emunand.
