Hey,

Fellow gateway 2.0 user reporting in, while patiently waiting for them to release Pokebank (27th december) I was just thinking, how long will this emunand exploit last? will Nintendo be able to block this with new firmware? Will they block online interactions of X/Y carts running on emuNAND? Will they be able to find out if we are running emuNAND and possibly brick our consoles? etc..

It feels like we will be locked out again eventually and I hope I can get the x/y 1.1 update and Pokebank app in time from the e-shop before it does at least.

I haven't seen anyone being just a little paranoid about this so I wanted to see what everyone thought.

Hope I'm wrong though!

This shouldn't even be a question or option. I'm sure it's not in their best interest to brick anyone intentionally regardless if they pirate games or not.

That's correct, however, if they can detect those pirated systems, then they can potentially ban you from ever being able to be online again, a la Xbox Live.

There would be no other way to apply the 1.1 patch from trasfering files?

Unfortunately, as of now, that doesn't seem to be possible.

But hey, while the eShop is still accessible, go there and grab the 1.1 update in advance, that should do the trick!

Indeed I was going to reference that, and we probably did break the license agreement that we accept before we apply the update so they could catch us out there.

I shall as soon as my retail cart arrives :D

Would doing that be possible before you don't even have the game?

Well Sony never banned anyone due to piracy, and I am sure not only they are more aggressively oppose it, but they definitely have a better network infrastructure for such things. So since Sony (nor any other system up until now) has refused banning systems, let's be optimistic and hope Nintendo won't either!

By the way, you don't even need the retail Pokemon game to just go ahead and grab the v1.1 from the eShop right away. So do it right away if you have Gateway already. :)

Yep. :)

Open eShop, go to Pokemon X / Y, then one of the 'blocks' is v1.1 patch, tap and download! The file should then be saved in System Settings, Data Management, Nintendo 3D, and then Downloadable Content.

Edit: While I have tested that myself personally and the Pokemon v1.1 was indeed there and ready, after a hard reset of the system, I just checked back again, and everything I had downloaded including the recent YouTube app, and the Nintendo Video app are all gone!

So does that mean everything you get from the eShop while in Gateway Mode will reset anytime you power off the system? I am going to do some tests myself, but can anyone here elaborate?

Here's an interesting find...

I re-downloaded the update, and it was there in the Downloadable Content. Restarted the system and checked again, well it was still there, did few other stuff and the file was still there.

THEN, while in the normal 4.5 (meaning SysNAND), I did one of the steps I had done earlier, which was going to Data Management, Nintendo 3DS, and tapping Add On (as there's no Downloadable Content on v4.5), and after the normal 'searching through the system', it says no data is found.

Afterward, once the system is fully off and restarted, ALL MY EmuNAND eShop 'PURCHASES' ARE COMPLETELY DELETED FROM THE SD!!!

So I hope someone else will try going through the same procedure to see if it's the same for everyone, and if that's the case, then I urge Gateway to mention it in their release notes, because it can be quite annoying and troublesome if you have lots of contents such as actual full eShop games deleted like that without being informed about it.

imho I thought it would only last 1 day but apparently there's no update yet right? I haven't checked updates so I don't know. But usually they were quick to fix things so people couldn't use flash carts. But don't worry, Nintendo pays their engineers a lot I am sure, they'll find a way to block the emunand shortly, I would give it before the end of the month at the latest.

I have the same issue.

So if your downloaded eShop content is deleted from your SD card, you can't just re-download it from the eShop for free?

Only if its on the firmware you purchased on. If you delete the emunand and recreate you are likely to have wasted money. Nintendo could've made their eShop so much better by making it steam like where you can log in via email (idk why they require email to signup in first place). Even worse most games on eShop cost more then physical cartridge. So much money to make and user base to generate that Nintendo is just ignoring.

Pretty sure Sony bans cfw users almost as soon as they connect to psn. Even with homebrew "protections " in place, your console can still get flagged and eventually banned.
