For the 10th time in 7 pages, people should read the readme FFS

"We have also included an option to boot into Classic mode that enables genuine retail gamecards and the emuNAND functionality, allowing it to run like a regular 3DS on latest firmware. "

Pokemon etc will work in classic mode if you are using EmuNAND ONLY

THANK YOU! i like how people where telling us it doesnt work and all.

and you came along........

THANK YOU AGAIN

I didn't know about data but I just backed up nand and checked on my other 3ds god my data is still in there.
But I still got update by running classic mode. Mayby I need more learning from Zelda.

Ok. I just shot the videos, but there are a couple things of note before the video gets edited and goes up:

1. System Transfer DOES NOT WORK. It will kick you back to 4.5 just as stated earlier in this thread. You can access the eShop and buy from it and download, but transferring is a no-go.

2. For all of you having problems with freezing going into Gateway mode as I did, I found that you are REQUIRED now to hold down the L button when selecting "Nintendo DS Profile". If you just do it the old way, it will not go any further. Also, you will NEED the Gateway cartridge in the system to boot into Gateway mode. I'm sure that's the "anti-clone" we rumored about.

3. Really important, so this is going to be in bold:

UNLESS YOU ARE DUMPING YOUR CARTS, DO NOT USE YOUR PHYSICAL CARTRIDGES ON THERE! YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SAVE DATA ON THE CART!

I put this in all bold and big because this is a major problem! Luckily for me, I did it with a cart that I'm just going to play again because now I can play it in 3D instead of 2D on my 2DS(Zelda: A Link Between Worlds). When I put the Zelda in to test if it can run physical copies in classic (normal) mode, I found that my save data was mysteriously missing, even though I was right at the Dark Castle (the last one I had to beat). I thought it was an issue with Gateway reading the save on the cart, but sure enough, when I popped it into my 2DS, there was no saves present. My saves were erased off the cartridge.

So, I'm editing it now, but I'm telling you all and warning you of this issue.

Dont spread misinformation, You dont need to hold L, it will go into GW mode fine without holding L, some people get it failing to get into GW mode using the GUI, and no you dont need the cart in either, just tested leaving the Blue Card in clicking profiles without L, and straight to GW mode, then i put the Red Card in, I can also confirm that all roms (apart from ACNL and Pokemon X/Y) work on 4.X aswell as the EmuNAND, So yes they fixed the SDK 5.x issue allowing for compatibility through system or emunand regardless of FW version, People calling BS on it being SDK 5.x that caused the issue, rest assured it was, a small issue but enough to stop the games booting

Applications built with SDKs prior to SDK 5.0.0 have the logo inside the ExeFS region of the application. With SDK 5.0.0 Nintendo decided to logo move it outside of the ExeFS region, un-encrypted (This was done prior to the announcement of GW). This of course meant the 3DS required a system update to know where to find the new location of the logo, this update was 5.0.0-11. GW runs on Firmwares 4.1.0-X to 4.5.0-X, which is why GW users were met with an error screen while attempting to launch these games. Obviously they patched in the reqed info on where to look, hence why Zelda Mario etc work fine on 4.1-4.5

What reports? I call bullshit... likely referring to Ocarina of time 3D.

But I may be wrong.

If so, then the "built with SDK 5.2.1" reason was bogus all along.

Still, you may run into problems later on in the game, if the game tries to use a function not found in a 4.x firmware.
Here:
Zelda runs without messing with the NAND. I'm still on 4.3 and booted Zelda fine. No forced updates or anything.. at least, not from the ROM I'm using. To be clear, I'm talking about Zelda ROM - I don't have a Zelda cartridge.

Im not sure about online with Pokemon but confirmations that can be made

1) All roms will play (except nand save) on either SystemNAND and EmuNAND via new Launcher (SDK 5.x Icon location patching done)
2) Eshop on EmuNAND allows buying and playing of titles
3) Most people experiences more freezes than before, stuck at grey lines / screen stays black, some have more issues booting into GW mode using GUI, other cant boot into GW mode without using GUI
4) Classic mode allows playback of retail carts, Meaning if original cart needs higher than 4.5X, you must have EmuNAND active or will be prompted to update
5) REPORTS OF RETAIL CARTS SAVES BEING WIPED ON RUNNING IN CLASSIC MODE, waiting for confirmation that it actually does save once doing this... or if cart is always blank
6) Backing out of system Settings will always return you to SysNAND, even in EmuNAND, also once you have updated your EmuNAND, you will be returned to SysNAND, not the updated emuNAND
7) No online Play

How do you dump cartridges?

But there has been a report that doing so wipes your saves.

when i was in GW 1.2 i played mario kart (borrowed ) in my 3ds and the save was not wiped, tried to play mario kart in GWmode and the console didn't recognize it

I just updated and my 3ds seems to struggle getting into gateway mode. Will successfully launch 1/2 of the time or less. Getting gray screens with horizontal white lines.

what if a game ends up using some firmware function only found in 5.x or higher, which hasn't been ported as patch to 4.x by gateway team? crashy crashy?

hard to imagine nintendo actually didn't put anything in link between worlds to try to make it harder to pirate.

If you where playing a retail cart on 1.2, thats cause you werent actually in gw mode, i thought GW mode meant the profile hack side of things and retail games didnt work, just cause you do the blue card exploit, that isnt actually gw mode till you run the profile exploit, Retail carts dont work in GW mode, hence the addition of a classic mode, can anyone confirm even though wiped, the new saving in classic mode actually worked , or is cart blank every time ??

In case anyone wondered when 4.5 was released by Nintendo.

I think that due to the pressure of the community, it has forced GW to release their internal testing version of 2.0.

Given the time they had to test out the bugs and stuff, we would assume that this release should be relatively stable with some quirks. But however, it seems most people testing it out have the same issues.

This leads me to the conclusion that GW are sort of stuck, I mean the "gray screen with lines" issue seems rather common so far, this should be one of the first issues that they have noticed and hence it should have been fixed.
