You are right, it is spring-loaded (only the Red card). Though, it's sold with the spring already "loaded", so the MicroSD card fits fully in the slot without the need to press it, which make it think there wasn't any spring.
I guess people can insert/remove the MicroSD without using the spring ;)

I expected mine to be spring loaded as well but it's not, i think it's probably better like that, when i owned a DS flashcard before, the spring broke and it became a pain in the ass to put the micro sd card in.

I prefer cards without spring too.
I had a card (M3 maybe?) with a bad spring, and I needed to press it many times to fit the SD card in.
Removing the card by sliding it and putting it back without pressing too hard prevent the faulty spring to be annoying.

got my gateway like a little over a week ago for RHS(works fine so far) and the box for mine looks more like shiny plastic than the cardboard looking one in the photo and my insert card holder was clear plastic, not as nice as the grey one in the photo so i got a nicer outside box it seems but a shittier inside card tray ,also the circuit board in blue card is like a gold color ,not red

That's the original packaging. Box is plastic and so is the holder.

The blue card seems to vary as it seems to be whatever they could get hold of at the time.

On the subject of spring loaded slot, I prefer them over ones without. I'm lazy and spring loaded slot lets me take sd card out without removing Gateway. I can't get it out of blue gateway or my acekard without taking them out :( (both have a normal slot).

But I've never had a problem with spring loaded slots. Even my original R4 (when they still came with a white shell as well :) ) is still going fine.

yeah but the funny thing about that is i cant seem to pop out the sd card from the red gateway and just pop in a new one with another rom cause for some reason when i do that the whole system freezes, i always do that with my dstwo though
