I've been really wanting to play online with my Nintendo DSL ever since it was given to me.
Up until now, I've never really had the attitude to actually change my network settings so I can play.
The problem is, I'm not the only one that uses our WiFi connection.

I found an option in my router that allows a "Guest Access Network."
I want to know if I can use this to connect to Nintendo WFC.
I have tried it, using WEP security. I enter the correct WEP DS. It recognizes the access point, but when it attempts to connect, it comes up with error 51300 which says it is unable to connect.
I then tried to use it without any security. The DS detected the network with a blue unlocked icon. It attempts to connect, but comes up with error 51300 again.

So my question is this:
Can I use this Guest WiFi as a way to play online?
Why does it say unable to connect even though it displays full wireless bars and a blue unlocked icon?

What part doesn't make sense?

(not being an ass, just wondering)

I just reread the beginning part of your thread. I understand now. Better to buy a WiFi dongle instead of trying to change the network settings.

Heh, that's why I said that. Was in the same predicament as you, until I bought a Nintendo DSi.

Alright, Thanks for your answer
This whole network stuff is really confusing, and I'm above average at computer usage and other computer stuff.

Do you have any relatively cheap suggestions?

Does it work if you change your primary network settings? The DS is/was somewhat picky about the routers it connects to/works with (not sure about that error code but connect but can not speak to the internet was a thing), it got far better in recent years compared to when it first came out but it is not flawless.
Realistically if it can connect to your main network then it should be able to connect to the guest, assuming the guest does not have an odd login type thing, is not port restricted and has an internet connection (and consumer level guest network sporting devices rarely have such nice options). However there is always the chance of a first.

But anyway if you can suffer the annoyances of the dongle (they are not the best wireless and software has been known to be a pain) then might be best to go with that.

Well the main network is used by many others. It also has the security set to WPA.
The guest network works on my phone. On the DS it actually shows up with full bars of connectivity. It just fails to connect. I actually looked up the error code at support.nintendo.com. It says that the error pops up when the password or SSID is incorrectly typed in the DS. The guest wifi doesn't even have a password set, and the SSID is correctly typed. So I'm completely lost.

I think I'll just buy a wifi dongle. Like I asked already, do you know of any inexpensive dongles that work?

Yeah it sounds like a router incompatibility issue rather than anything wrong you did at configuration.

Dongles. I am not sure what goes with hackery side of things these days or even the "knows enough networking to set up an access point" side of things. The dongles themselves were not the USB things you usually buy but Nintendo special things ( Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector ). A patent case is probably what saw them discontinued and they seem to fetch a reasonably high price these days (despite the software being less than brilliant and the networking not much better).

"is used by many others"
You can mention you are doing a test or my preferred method is wait until 4am but that is besides the point.
