guys

errors will occur from cheap fake MicroSD cards
and also slow speed SD cards

i personally use Class 10 MicroSD cards are genuine and have no issues, plus using a official adapter (not a cheap one)

the mixture of using both slow and cheap is that data will easily corrupt
and also if the card is not fast enough to give a good speed the 3DS will error out because it did not get the data in time

after fews test, some rom dont work well

for exemple new super mario 2 for me, tested with some new 4gb and 8gb sandisk
with micro sd to usb or with micro sd to sd adapter straigh to my powerbook, same result, but dk 3d or mario luigi working well on to thoses micro sd (8gb sandisk)
so i guess gateway dont handle well fews games

Folks thanks for all your constructive assistant.

My final feedback:
I have been trying the roms on v1 and v1.1a both yields the same result.

I have been trying the method broie mentioned, situation is better but still freeze (games can create save but freezes at the very first few moment).

This is the reply from gateway

ok, it is probably defective, rare, but can happen. Could be your console too.
Ask for an exchange to your supplier, and if that doesn't work, it is something
with the console.

mailto:[email protected]

I will send to the seller and ask for exchange. I hope it is really not my console's problem.
If it is my console then it will be ironic that i have to tell the game shop that my 3DS is not working because i can't be a pirate.

Use Panasonic SD Formatter to nuke the SD card, then format it according to the Gateway's readme. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

If you are using a powerbook, then try the program dd. I've been using it and the 4 games I tested on 2 different cards worked fine.

Nintendos way of telling you to buy the games :yay:

How are you flashing your games? I tried using the included reader but found it was slower than just using a SD-to-micro adapter in my laptop's SD card reader.

This is what i have been trying

a) Running games on firmware 1.0 or 1.1a
b) format with either computer, panasonic sd formatter (quick and full)
c) Tried on 3 different brand SD card
d) I tried downloading rom from other place
e) I tried flashing the game with Win32 by using those cheap usb adapter (3mb/s), my personal usb adapter (10-13mb/s)and my laptop (6mb/s)

Anyhow, the seller agrees and i will send it back tomorrow for an exchange :)

I would say there are 3 reasons that cause this doesn't work

a) microSD card
b) bad luck got a faulty gateway
c) my 3DS is faulty?

I could not get past the first starting scene for Super Mario Bros 2 (USA)
I will get the (EUR) version and test it .

Anyhow, i will ask for an exchange.

EDIT: This is what i get when testing the EUR rom. Error and booted out of the game during the save creation screen.

well probably gateway needs to fix their code on a future realease of firmware and maybe there are corrupted roms out there from sites that didnt even upload correctly ,of course there is the fact of trim roms and low speed micro sd cards.
so maybe we need to get a database of what works on gateway and what not and release group.
my 2 cent given :P

You can easily check if your Rom matches what the scene release groups released by checking its CRC32 using a program like 'hashcalc',
installing it, opening your 3DS Rom, clicking calculate and comparing the CRC32 value with the
IMGCRC value in the database here: http://3ds.essh.co (some sites list the MD5 / SHA-1 hashes too)

You can paste the CRC32 result into the search box on the upper right, if you get a match the Rom is the same as what the scene groups released.
If you get 'no matching records found' then your rom might be trimmed or corrupted.

You can also check the properties of your 3DS Rom and find the size in bytes.
Untrimmed 3DS roms will have a size of: 134,217,728 bytes (128MB), 268,435,456 bytes (256MB)
536,870,912 bytes (512MB), 1,073,741,824 bytes (1GB), 2,147,483,648 bytes (2GB) or 4,294,967,296 bytes (4GB).
(Note, MAC OS X and Linux will show the MB and GB sizes in decimal not binary, so a 128MB rom will show as approx 134MB)

Notice that the 'Size' matches the TrimmedSize on 3ds.essh.co, so this Rom has been trimmed.
You can restore (untrim) the rom using the '3DS Rom Tool' using the command: "rom_tool -r Test.3ds" and then rechecking if the CRC32 matches.
3DS Rom Tool is available here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-rom-tool-rom_tool.349314/,
There is also a GUI for 3DS Rom Tool is you don't like using 'command line' programs.
or you can use this one line batch file to batch untrim all .3ds roms in the same folder as the batch file
paste the line in notepad and save it as "untrim.bat" (with the quotes) and place it in a
folder with 'rom_tool.exe' and your 3DS roms and run it to untrim every 3DS Rom in that folder.
(to make it trim all 3ds roms instead, replace the "-r" part with "-t" and save it as "trim.bat")
Code:
for %%a in (*.3ds) do rom_tool.exe -r "%%a"

If you are still having problems after verifying your Rom is good you might have a problem with the MicroSD card you are writing the
3DS Rom to, try using another MicroSD card and/or MicroSD writer. (or your gateway 3ds flashcard might be faulty?)

i dont know why u talk here abt trim rom, all crash we got is from original rom dump ... euro or us
trim rom is another story :)
