Hacking Gateway Firmware spoof release to testers

Questions about Gateway 3DS.
1. If somebody install Gateway to Nintendo 3DS, can he return back to non-hacked 3DS?
2. Someone tried to go online with installed Gateway? In gateway mode and in normal mode.
3. It safe to use online with the real copy of the game with installed gateway?

1. Yes, by turning off the 3DS.
2. Yes I tried to go online but it gave me error 002-0123.
3. It's fine. You see you have to run the exploit to get the 3DS in the hacked mode. Once you turn off the 3DS it goes back to the normal mode. In normal mode the 3DS runs just like it should.

1. yes, turning on and off the system return you to 3DS MODE (not Gateway Mode) and running a normal DS game or flashcard removes the DS Settings exploit
2. Gateway doesnt work online, normaly 3DS mode is not affected
3. gateway doesnt install anything to 3DS mode, its like a temporay patch to data until a reset

Another question : since I keep my connexion on, I got this update message.
Now. If I want to update to a specific firmware, can I just use a retail cart?
Or does updating through a cart = saying "OK" to update with last firmware downloaded?

In other words, I'm in 4.5, but downloaded the last firmware (6.x). If I use a cart with 5.x, is there any risk to end up with 6.x?

You're in 4.5, so DON'T UPDATE AT ALL. PERIOD.

But, if you were trying to update, I'm pretty sure the retail cart won't use the latest update that you downloaded. If you wanna be extra careful, use your 3DS until it asks you to update, say no, then try to update with the retail cart.

As said in the post above, do not update at all if you want to use Gateway -- once you run Gateway Mode, the update nagging will go away, even after restarting the 3DS -- it only comes back after resetting your DS mode.

Yes you can remove it by formatting your 3ds to new in the settings menu or by installing the gateway3ds installer which blocks the update nagger.

Downgrades are currently possible, but you have to do some soldering and other technical stuff that I don't understand, and you need to have dumped your earlier firmware before you updated. If you currently have a 5.0+ 3DS and want to downgrade, but never dumped your earlier firmware, it is currently impossible. We don't know if/when we'll be able to downgrade willy nilly, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
