witcher developer questions/witcher 3. Are they making a profit?

i loved the witcher 2, superb game, played it on PC, phenomenal game. graphcis out of this world, great story (game of thrones like), nice fighting system. WOW. I pirated it though.

it's -75% atm on Steam, and I'm wondering, are they making a profit? how much, can they develop witcher 3? because IF they aren't, I can buy it, just because it feels good, and developers like this, that respect their customers (superb support, especially PC-side) really deserve more respect/attention/money.

Well the second game sold 1,2 million I think, according to VGChartz. I don't know if that's enough, I hope so.
Was an excellent game indeed, deserves a sequel.

I think it's more the other way around: what real costs do they have for offering the game on steam? They don't have to produce a box, disc, manual or things like that. Just the bandwith, and that isn't exactly a huge cost.

Also: don't forget that these steam sales are an answer to secondhand sales. For those, the company itself gets nothing. With this, at least they get a few pennies.

I'd say that if you really want to support them, then wait for the steam sales to end. Obviously, if you pay more, they'll have more money in the end.

I'm playing through the second game right now on xbox (got it on sale new for $10 at gamestop.com during the black friday sales) and I'm digging it enough that I picked up the first game on Steam for like $2.50. Going to take a long while to get used to PC controls but I can't wait to play it.

Never played the first (I have it on Steam though) but I thought the second was rather mediocre. It was a wanna-be Game of Thrones with tons of unnecessary nudity and graphic sexual content some reviewers could go "It's a real MATURE game!" It struck me as the opposite honestly. It was just mature for the point of being mature. Take out the sexual content and overused language and you'd have roughly the same game that could probably get a T-rating if the blood was cut.

Were you aware that The Witcher was based on a bunch of Polish short stories and comic books, the first of which was published in 1986? That would make it kind of difficult to be a "wanna-be Game of Thrones" considering A Song of Ice and Fire wasn't published until a decade later... The "unnecessary nudity and graphic sexual content" were also present in the stories, as well as the Polish "Witcher" television show from 2002 (called The Hexer). So...Game of Thrones was a really poor example to use to get your point across...

Just because it's an adaptation doesn't mean you should take everything from it. When you're doing an adaptation you have artistic liberties. You can change it to feel a bit more to your liking. The whole game struck me as a convoluted story with an unnecessary amount of unexplained lore wrapped in a sexual package.

I played all of the Witcher 2 and I still felt no motivation towards the climax of the game or how it set itself up for The Witcher 3, or how it was all relevant for that matter.
