I'm about to go buy a 3DS and I don't know if I should get a used or new one. If its used, what are the possible bad things that could occur with it?

The top screen might be scratched by the bottom screen and the L & R triggers might go faulty quicker. You can get one used for 90ish. Ask devin for one of his actually. He has had some trouble selling them. Ebay will sell them for auction for around 145 new currently.

If you want new Sam's Club, Bestbuy and Kmart have some amazing offers on them ending soon. http://gbatemp.net/threads/us-3ds-3ds-xl-deals.334071/

not sure where your buying from but gamestop sells the first model 139.99-149.99 pre-owned and brand new is 169.99 if you go the new route you can get a 2gb sd card with it not sure about getting an sd card with a used 3ds free through i have not seen a XL large 3ds anywhere so good luck with that.

Buying a used or new 3DS from Gamestop is a rip off unless you have credit there, there is a massive deal or it is an ambassador 3ds. On ebay they go for 110+, people here sell them for 90ish and they even go on sale occasionally for 139.99 new.

Well, I suggest you buy a brand new one. On my friend's birthday party, he got a used Wii. Guess what? The Wii had scratches on it, didn't even play Gamecube games (not the new model), and faced a lot of audio problems from the RCA.
The Pros of getting a used one is that the prices are low, but you can't take any risks right? The cons, are just what I listed,
so even though you got your answer, i'm letting other people know:
Getting a used console, is risky.

But what also is stupid is that the stores don't even check the conditions of the consoles. My sister works at BestBuy, and you just make an excuse, get store credit, and they don't even look at the console's conditions! If even the power adapter of a wii was missing, they'd take it. Without looking.

If you want to get an XL, then definitely grab a new one. It's new enough that you're probably not going to find a used one for much cheaper than the new price, anyway.

as for the original... well, I bought mine used, and it was fine for about 6 months, until the L button stopped working (whether it was from playing too much Kid Icarus: Uprising or something else, I'm not sure), but Nintendo fixed it since it was still within the warranty limit. Getting a new one is nice though, since you have the guarantee of a new warranty and know how long it'll last.

Either way (sort of unrelated, but demands to be noted), grab screen protectors. Regardless of whether you get the original or XL. Both are prone to screen scratching (I've experienced it on both versions, with multiple modles).
