I have linux mint 13 MATE desktop and I tried installing compiz. I installed the compiz package and the CCSM and none of the effects work.

I tried this:

compiz --replace

Went to mateconf-editor, and edited the window manager in desktop/mate/session/required_components from marco to compiz.
What happens now is that my icons on the bars disapear (close maxamize, minimize)
I enable window decoration, and I get them back. However, I cannot move the windows around anymore. I click and drag them and they don't work.

I just repeated this process, and switched back to marco
marco --replace, and changed window manager back to marco.

Any help fixing this problem appreciatedd :)

Probably already looked at this, but from what I can see, there is nothing wrong with these instructions and if you follow them, you should be fine. You probably just derped and didn't toggle on the "window decorations" in CCSM...which the tutorial also clearly states...and it's "compiz --replace" not "--replace compiz"...which is also in the tutorial...

That was just a typo in my post but I typed the correct ones because they did change. i toggled window decorations and the top bar (minimize, maxamize, close) showed up again, except I could not drag the windows around the screen. I would grab them and they wouldnt move

Take the time to read everything available in CCSM.
I got it working but theres one issue. Every time I uncheck or check an effect it stops working and takes off all my effects. Once I do compiz --replace again it works... THis never happened when I tried compiz in ubuntu.

Somehow that issue really doesn't seem to be something major ._.
Don't expect different distros to always act the same...because they might not. Maybe there was a package you forgot or something, or maybe LinuxMint uses their own repo for distributing that package along with the other ones that they already repackage.

Rather, why not just put up with it to set up all of the settings you want, and then you don't have to deal with it anymore.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.

    nvm it does support mine
