Honestly, is it worth the playthrough? I'm only on my way to the third dungeon, and I'm bored as shit with the game. I'm in the desert, and actually having trouble finding my way to the third dungeon. I'm finding the game to be slow and tedious. Does it pick up at all?

I'm a fan of the Zelda series, but jesus fucking christ, this is the worst opening to a Zelda game I've ever played. I thought Majora's Masks intro was slow, but at least Link does flips when he jumps.

I got stuck on that desert too, and stopped playing since then...

All of the good things I've heard about the game are from late dungeons and stuff, so it probably just gets better later on.

Every Zelda beginning sucks. Especially Twilight Princess, and that ended up being one of my favorite games ever.

I can't give you personal advice, because to be honest, I never finished Skyward Sword either. From everyone I know that beat it said it was the best Zelda game to date, but many people will disagree with that.

I'm sure it's worth the play through, I just never finished it because I've never had the time.

That's what I heard too. And that's why I stopped playing because of the desert place. I'm literally bored to death in there. I hope it gets better on, because so far, this is enough for me to want to trade the game in.

Actually I'm curious about this too. I'm a bit farther than ShadowSoldier (the three tears or something?) but the game is just so damn tedious. I'm not sure if I should push further.

Twilight Princess' was pretty bad, but at least it picked up pretty fast in the first temple. Also, Ocarina of Time had a quick intro, then boom, you're in the Deku Tree which was actually fun to play through. But every temple so far in SS has been boring as hell and not fun to play through. Please tell me there's at least a way I can get a better shield without upgrading with those items...

Yeah you have to jump through a LOT of hoops in the desert to get to the temple. But stick with it, the next three dungeons after the desert are better. And I don't think there's an alternate way to upgrade the shield (unless you use cheats :P )

For god's sakes, I just activated one thing, and now there's two more or something? Seriously, I'm actually lost in this desert. I have no clue what the hell to do.

The desert's an incredibly long and in my opinion, a boring dungeon. Once you get through it, the story really picks up and the rest of the dungeons are incredibly fun. Continue playing through the game, dude.

All of them are great and I enjoyed them all except Stylus on DS is a nono. Its annoying and D Control is so much better than stylus for Zelda. :)

At least tell me what the hell I'm supposed to be doing so I can get to the dungeon.

Yeah that took me a while to figure out what the heck to do and where to find the last part of the key.
If you're hopelessly stuck you might as well break down and use a walkthrough to get out yourself unstuck. The game is quite good, albeit a somewhat tedious at times but IMO it's no more tedious than Twilight Princess.

Ugh, I toughened through it and managed to get to the temple. I just wish I had a shield that wouldn't break before I get to the boss. Seriously, that's one of my biggest gripes, the fucking shield has it's own lifebar?!

Admittedly I had the same frustrating time figuring that part out....there are a few puzzles that are quite unclear and not really many if any clues on what to do. What you have to do seems really illogical with the clues given.

Yeah I had the same problem at first, as long as you counter your shield at the right times it doesn't take damage.

Personally I just got bored of the game after a while. I'm past the halfway point but really don't give a fuck any more.

It's not different enough to not feel like an old Zelda game and the combat, well that depends on your preference. I still think the combat is really just one trick and it's not even supposed to be a major part of the game. It still doesn't feel as fun as even a Darksiders/God of War game and it's not as challenging as a Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden game (either combat style can be adapted for Zelda too). A lot of the new stuff it adds is still incredibly minimal and only a baby step forward. Yeah, you can upgrade your weapons, but it's poorly done and really just amounts to you being as effective in this Zelda game as before. Plus it requires really useless grinding for random garbage. Then there's the poorly implemented motion controls for flying, swimming, skydiving, rope crossing, a bunch of things, as well as numerous other small issues.

Level design is solid like almost any Zelda game but at this point I can play a ton of games with solid Zelda-like level design and honestly have a better time. Zelda has started to feel really archaic and lacking evolution and Skyward Sword didn't really deliver a "revolutionary" entry.

Wait poorly implemented controls, as in they don't work, or just gimmicky poorly implemented?

For swordplay it worked as well as the Wii Motion Plus can but it felt really stale. Red Steel 2 was a lot more fun to play. Here it felt like it was a clock simulator, making sure my arm was at the right position to slash. Red Steel 2 felt more natural and fun.

For the rest of the game, the WM+ was gimmicky poorly implemented. It was annoying to fly with it, it was annoying to skydive with it, it was annoying to swim it with, it was annoying to play the harp with, it was annoying to cross ropes with. It's not like there was no alternative to this, they have an analog stick for Christ's sake and they've done pretty much all these before in past, Wii Motion Plus-less Zeldas.
