For some reason when I put the 3DS on the table it completely shuts down.. Is this normal or a known issue among other 3DS?

I just tested it multiple times, and bumping the 3DS on the bottom slightly (where the LED light is shown and headset jack) shuts it down.. I'm finding this very weird.

If I posted this in the wrong section, please move the thread.

Regards,

I haven't tried opening it.. Would that be a wise idea to do?

EDIT:

I opened it, the battery is very much stuck.

Yea, I bought it under 12 months ago seeing it released here in Europe in March 2011. But the problem is I no longer have the warranty papers.. But I still have the original box and I'll call to them Monday, hopefully I can get an exception.

Since the 3ds hasn't been out for more than a year in pal regions they will most likely not even ask for any kind of proof of purchase date.

Sounds like a wiring issue to me, have you dropped the 3DS? I think if you did that may have caused the wiring inside it to become loose. I would give Nintendo a call and explain your issue to them and see what's they say. Your system is still under warranty so you should be able to be sent in for repairs.

Any "warranty papers" you have are likely an extended warranty/service plan that should take effect after the 12 (13 months if you registered it on club nintendo) month warranty from Nintendo. Wherever you got the 3DS would have tried to push the extended warranty. As for in the first 12 (or 13) months, Nintendo looks up THEIR warranty just by checking your serial number, printed on the battery cover AND behind the battery itself. Your serial number is activated at the Point Of Sale and the warranty begins the day after you buy the console, if I am not mistaken. If you haven't gotten rid of BOTH of those serials, you're fine. Just type them into the warranty info box on their support site.

My black DSi developed a similar fault, it would power off if the corner of the system got tapped hard, like you say, on a table or something.

It's a fault so definitely call Nintendo.

Actually, even if nintendo does send out a replacement system, they will attempt to transfer what they can over to it, and you will be able to redownload anything that was since deleted before you sent the system in. At the worst, you may lose saved game progress. I really wish Nintendo would have allowed transfer of that data personally, from one system to another.

And yeah, All the retailers now activate the warranty through the system serial number, which means no real need to keep receipts.

Now, for those that would be out of warranty, which is not yet the case, I would rather pay Nintendo for the repair, knowing that I will retain the DLC redownloading rights on any new system. You would lose that right through any retailer extended warranty exchange.

I also had this very confusing problem on my IceWhite 3DS. As soon as I placed it on a table (or any hard surface), it would automatically turn off. But, I solved it in a very peculiar way (at least I hope I did ^.^), by hitting it a couple of times from the very same hard surface (the table), but somewhat harder... Since then, I haven't noticed the problem and I've intentionally placed my 3DS on a table, on every possible occasion. (:

Thanks everyone. I've returned the 3DS for repair and was under full warranty. Especially since the 3DS system wasn't even 12 months old (3DS was selling in local shops about 11 months ago). I got a completely new 3DS.. *yay*.
