Sounds like you already answered/acted upon your own question. :rofl:

If you need reassurance, I think you did the right thing. :P

Ha HA no it's that I feel it won't resolve it but I'll have to wait and see.

Don't worry. It should take about 8-10 days for that pending transaction status, to change to declined/canceled.
I tried to use my visa gift card as well to buy something, but it cannot be used, and cannot be helped.
Just the way how Nintendo does it. Just saying but, my vanilla mastercard giftcard works for eShop just fine.
Anyways, give it 7-9 more days.

You used a Vanilla Mastercard? Those didn't work for me ;___;

Basically this is how credit cards work...

You ask to put money on your 3ds from Nintendo.

Nintendo asks your bank if you have xxx amount of money available.

Your bank puts a hold for that amount (assuming that Nintendo plans on charging that amount, it's done to prevent overdrafts/overdraws. This is common practice for ALL major credit card providers)

Nintendo sees it's a prepaid card and declines.

Your bank after 3-4 days sees that Nintendo never actually charged and probably has no plans to and thus returns the funds to "available" status

Long story short: Nintendo made sure you actually HAD the money, but then saw it was a prepaid card and cancelled. Your bank put that money aside to keep you from spending it twice while it waited for a response from Nintendo. Now the bank will wait a couple days, see nothing, then return the money to you for use.

This is one of those things that should be taught in schools... My school did a thing for checking accounts and such, but only briefly touched on credit cards and why they were evil for all reasons always.

Yeah WellsFargo says I should see the funds in the eShop tonight or tomorrow and I found out Visa heh, "gift cards" are treated like Debit cards and they put a hold and they said that if I don't see the funds they should just return to my Visa Gift card.

It seems that some prepaid visa/mastercard gift cards do work, and others don't. For the ones that don't, the funds end up being held for 7 days, and there isn't a thing the gift card issuers can do about it.

Regardless, with any of them, you have to register your billing address first, and if unsure if a given card will work or not, only go for adding $5 to the eshop account, so that only that amount will be tied up if it doesn't work.

For those that are in Canada, the Bank of Montreal prepaid travel mastercard does work. (Its a reloadable prepaid card.). The CIBC advantage debit card however, currently does not, due to the fact that ALL canadian merchants have to specifically participate in order to process as credit rather than debit. (The CIBC advantage debit card however does work for Wii/DSi reloading, since that goes through the american credit card processor.) I don't know the specific brand name of the prepaid visa off hand, that I tried, that failed, but its website, as listed on the back of the card, to register the billing address was www.giftcardstore.ca/visacard/.
