More details on Tokitowa have surfaced from this week's issue of Weekly Famitsu via our usual source, Sokuho@Hokanko.
As detailed earlier, Tokitowa, which can be translated to English as "Time and Eternity," is a PS3 RPG that's being published by Namco Bandai Games and developed by Imageepoch and animation studio Satelight. The game is produced by Kay Hirono and Kensuke Tsukanaka, has character designs from Vofan and music from Yuzo Koshiro.
The game is set in Kamuza Kingdom, a nation formed when a prince, known as the Knight King, and a magic wielding princess married. The castle town floats on the water (I'm not sure if this means it's on an island or if it's actually floating on the water like a ship).
You play as that prince whose marriage formed the Kingdom. You're 18 years old, and even though you're married, you still haven't had your first kiss. The prince is meant to be named by the player, although he does have a voice actor, Tsubasa Yonaga.
The princess's name is Toki. Toki is 16 years old and always keeps Drake, her blue colored dragon-like pet, at her side. Toki is voiced by Kana Hanazawa.

One of the big early talking points for the game appears to be its animation system. The game uses hand drawn 2D animation for main characters and enemies during movement throughout the world and in battle. This isn't an approximation of hand drawn artwork using cell shading -- it's actual hand drawn art. Backgrounds and other areas appear to be 3D.
Outside of these story and character details, Famitsu scored commentary from the various staff members along with Imageepoch CEO Ryoei Mikage. Here's what they had to say: Kay Hirono (Producer, Namco Bandai) The project has been in development for over two years. Hirono promises a completely new title that is full of new experiments. Ryoei Mikage (CEO, Imageepoch) Mikage said that he created this project plan long ago when he thought that he wanted to show 2D anime as is on a game system. The systems at the time were incapable of pulling this off. To get it to work on the PS3, they had to do many trials. Vofan (Character Concept) Vofan is from Taiwan, but loves Japanese games and anime. He started character design for the game in 2010. The themes for the game are "Love" and "Time." Yuzo Koshiro (Sound Composer) Yuzo says that when he was first shown the design doc, he was drawn to the game by Vofan's characters. The background art is also beautiful, he said. This is serving as inspiration for his composition.
Development on Tokitowa is currently 45%. In a blurb next to the percentage, a Namco Bandai PR person refers to the game as "the world's first HD animation RPG."

We get to play as a married man who's still virgin and it wouldn't make since until I seen that the princess is voiced by Kana Hanazawa and characters voiced by her are often extremely shy and sometimes too shy to let a man screw them. This game has got promise and it's animated by the same studio who did Macross Frontier which is awesome.

Sory, but I just recently got into JRPGs and Anime, so, is this localized for only Japan, or NTSC as well? It seems like it would be a fun game, or one you would rage quit when you go to have your first kiss and she's like... You're new to this? But it seems like it would be interesting.

It's for Japan only right now, but if it doesn't get localized, you can import it since it's for PS3.

Actually, since it's for PS3, I can't, unless I magically play them on a virgin 360.

Who said JRPs were becoming fucking stupid?

It's like you have to troll every JRPG thread on this forum b/c you hate them so much.

I hate JRPGs?

I've read multiple times where you have shown dislike for them being repetitive and taking up to much time to complete.

I guess you've also haven't read the multiple times where I declare my enjoyment of MegaTen , Valkrie Chronicles C and Ys. Any criticism of JRPGs are directed to the absurdity and lack of quality towards certain JRPGs, such Kingdom Hearts where the gameplay is repetitive and the story is just cringeworthy.

My mind is completely blown-away by the Japanese, again.
Actually, this happened quite often in the past in countries that had Kings, like old European countries, most of the times marriages were arranged by the families, even for nobility it worked like that, that would make for example, an 16 year old Prince getting married to a 12 year old Princess or noblewoman.

Anyways, this game actually seems pretty interesting, I'm looking forward to it (even tho I don't have a PS3 anymore, but might get one if it gets more interesting games)

I guess. You still puzzle me a little though...

I have no idea what you mean by that.

Well it hasn't happened in a videogame ever, but the historical reference is correct.

Looking awesome and I'm ashamed of the MC for not even kissing Toki, he really should have banged Toki by now, she's a hottie.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you can find enough for it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

I bet most people at the time still watched it in black and white
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
