could i run backups on a wii that i bought a wii today? what firmware would it have? any help?

Seeing questions like this popping up every week, such faq´s should be stickied, like: "You just got yourself a new Wii- find your answers inside"

I wouldn't get a wii if I were you. The new WII U is coming soon.

He is right. You should wait. :)

Excuse me, but other than the prototype, we haven't seen much of the WiiU. Seeing that Nintendo has certain financial issues plus they have a history of cancelled consoles behind them, I wouldn't be suprised if the "WiiU" turns out to be something entirely different than what was already shown with entirely different specs and under an entirely different name.

As long as there is no concrete release date and no concrete, working prototype that will not undergo any changes, the "WiiU" doesn't "exist". The controller itself has been through several chipsets already, god only knows how many motherboard revisions it will undergo. Nobody knows if the Bluetooth connection will work out either. So far, it's really up-hill for our friends in Japan.

Nintendo is keep it under wrap and a secret. Be patient and I put my trust in them. Wii U will be worth while. :)

1. E-Bay
2. Input "Wii" as the search term.
3. Buy a normal Wii with GC ports.
4. Enjoy Gamecube games as well as Wii games.

I tried, but I could not find anything for $100, it does say new system under $55, but they are just games. May be I am e-bay impaired. The lowest price I had seen so far was $115 and that too you had to buy some other stuff.

I could not resist bought one ~$114 including taxes, will learn bricking, unbricking and giantpunes tools to clean nand. Hope mrs will not find out. :)

If you bought one without GC ports, there is no way to use Bootmii.

What about BootMii IOS and Priiloader? He could still use that to make/load NAND backups.

You could still navigate through the bootmii menu using the Wiis front buttons(power, reset, eject) no need for a gc controller to do this ;)
