Can you imagine a 3DS lite? Not that I think nintendo can make the console more compact than it already is but what if they added a longer lasting battery, extra brightness etc..

More possibly a revamped model without 'real 3D', but image projection onto a surface... more like a wish than what would be, that.

I'm thinking integrated wireless connectivity (simple Skype- like client using the camera for video calls?). Nintendo can really take a page out of Amazon's book for that in the wireless connectivity coverage sense.

You know something, that's one of the best features I've heard all day! :)

If they actually made a 3D projection feature in the future (were looking at 20yrs) then I would say nintendo are definitely moving in the right direction to winning the handheld console war.

After 5 years
3DS = NDS (now)
NDS = Gameboy
Game boy = epic

As much as I agree, I don't think it'll be that way if they don't make some major updates, like "custom themes" or "Facebook" or "Skype". As much as I am against Nintendo getting wtered down with unnecessary software, I wouldn't mind the custom themes or YouTube.

3DS is on that slow start, the same as DS. Within a year or two I expect a lot more people will own one and there to be a very solid library of games. In 5 years everyone has one.

* Adopted by the masses, basically successful like the DS(i) systems
* Large library of games, including eShop
* Redesign with better battery, improved 3D, and integrated right circle pad
* Still trying to convince the world that Blue Man Group are actually entertaining through Nintendo Video
* Blue Man Group app to store all your favorite Blue Man Group videos
* Did I mention Blue Man Group? :tpi:

Not really concerned with features as much as I am game library. You give me games worth buying, and I'll buy the system. (Just the system lol)

I see the system in 5 years pretty much how the DS is now, Almost completly tapped out with nintendos next big handheld grabbing all the Gbatemp brand pessimism :U. Now if you ask me how it will be in 3 or 4 years then I would say full of features and enough AAA's to fill a back truck. What I really want is a video player and a FC voice chat/ IM system. Maybe a few DLC levels for upcoming games other then that I dont really care.

What I see for the 3DS in 5 years is probably it's strongest feature:

2D Games, apps, and ware! :tpi:

But in all seriousness, if Nintendo did all these things I don't know what I'd do :

* WiiU Connectivity
* GBA VC (More than just Ambassador games)
* Somehow import saves from original NES/GB/GBC/GBA Games/carts to 3DS VC using official Nintendo means (This is more like an unrealistic dream though)
* 3D Video chat
* Flash (Probably Flash Lite if at all) in browser, or a better integration with HTML5
* Virtual Boy VC
* A licensed app to create 3DS channels (similar to the app that was on the JP DSi, channel creation was limited but still)
* GameCube ports (Would love to play GC on a handheld)

Considering that Nintendo said they want to update the system every five years, I see it as pretty much obsolete.

I also see it tasting like chicken.

In 5 years it will still be causing Sony fanboys to flood every 3DS news topic with "I used to love Nintendo, but they've lost their way and will probably go bankrupt and I won't care cos I've got a Vita"...

Honesty, among the only things that I want to see added is chat (text chat and voice chat, maybe even through Skype like the PSP was if they want), but knowing Nintendo, even that may not happen.
