Gaming DS not charging up?? HELP!

My DS phat was working well until yesterday - When the battery light got red and I played it until it turned off.
It still has that little bit of energy, because When I tried charging it up, I just couldn't! I thought it was my charger [since I left it up charging for the whole night, like I ever did, and not only it didn't charge, but also the charger was super hot] but after buying a new one, the problem continues:

The charging light does not light up when I plug the charger, Battery doesn't fill up at all, and I'm sure at least the New charger is supposed to be working well, but it didn't do any good!

What's happening? is it the charger's socket? Is it the Battery? Seriously, Help! Okamiden is so close, I have to keep my DS alive to play it! \TAT/

The charger got super hot? Maybe a short circuit?
My DS (lite), have some problems on charging, but it's the either the charger plug or the DS connector that is giving me a bad contact. I need, sometimes, to "move" it a little bit so the charging process begin.

Is it possible that you insertet your charger on the wrong voltage?

I'll say the battery has died. Especially you played your Phat until it dies, which you are NOT supposed to do.

DS systems use Lithium-ion battery. These battery can only operate safely at a range of voltage. As DS drains the battery its voltage drops as well. Once battery's voltage drops below this safety range its lifespan begins to drop as well. DS refuses to charge the battery because it is dead. That red light is telling you that it is about drop below the safety range.

Go to eBay and buy NTR-003. Phat only replacement battery.

Also, I'm concerned on your charger being hot. Mine is left on as well and it is not hot at all. Did you plug a 110V charger in 220V outlet?

Try a different DS Phat battery...They aren't built to last forever.

Sounds like either a dead battery or a short in the charger cable. Got a multimeter?

I'm almost sure it's only the battery, because I got a new one and the charging light not liting up happened again.

Also, since I got that used DS, I used it mostly to listen to music... until the battery ran dry. It happened a lot.

Also, it didn't got hot before, or at least, not as hot as when this started to happen.

Well if it still turns on, then your battery is shot. That happened to my a few of mine.
Just go out, buy a new battery at like your local Radio Shack, switch out your old one and it should be fine.

Or it could be the charging cord. Again you should be able to find both at your local Radio Shack, I assume you should since I have seen them in just about every Radio Shack I have been to. This including ones in Massachusetts, New York, and even Indiana.

I probably found a place that sells the Battery, but if it means cheaper prices, I might get one on Ebay and wait some weeks to get it.

So, is this the right Battery? Funny that it says "850mAH" - I never understood that thing, but it's much lower than the PSP battery... Probably due to processing differences, right?

I also found these on DealExtreme - Doubt they're original, but the price is very interesting...

Yep, that is the right battery.

850 mAh refers to battery capacity. It means how much charge can a battery holds.

Higher mAh means you can play your DS longer without recharge, at the cost of lower lifespan and longer charging time.

You can only find 850 mAh battery for original DS (Phat).

I'm STILL in need of help!!

let's see:
DS phat does not light up charging light when I plug my charger. I'm sure there's energy, as my psp charges up as well.
Charger is not the original one, it was lost. The replacement one was working fine, but DS stopped charging after last time battery ran out completely.
Tried out a new charger, same problem.
My actual charger got really HOT when I left it plugged the whole night, trying to charge the DS.
Got a new battery, it has some charge and the DS accepted it normally and turned on. It's not original, of course, since it's a DS phat. Still, the problem persists, so I belive my original battery should still be okay too.

Could the power socket be messed up somehow? I'm basically giving up and leave it somewhere to be fixed, since I not only can't find the part on DealExtreme, don't have money online for it, and I'm tired of not being able to fix that... Anyone found themselves in a situation similar to this?

Anyway, I have an official DS Phat charger and mine did not get really hot at all. Are you using the official Nintendo brand charger? Model number is NTR-002.

Your charger should have the following ratings -
Input - AC, 120V, 60Hz, 4W
Output - DC, 5.2V, 320mA

Check your charger to make sure it complies with the rating.

Yeah, still have problems. I just got the new battery, but no luck - because it works fine, but there's still no charging.

My charger is a generic one for GBAsp. Again, not the original one. The infos are as follows:
"model" AGS-002(CHN) [couldn't find anything else to fit this info]
input: AC80~240V 50/60Hz 7VA
output: DC5.2V 320mA

Funny thing is that it worked fine for months, and a new identic model didn't work either. I think the plug on the DS is busted somehow, it looks rusty... [bought third-handed from someone that lived near the beach...] BUT EVEN SO, it worked for MONTHS right after I bought it and looked for a new generic charger!

Well, yeah, thanks for your help and patience! NDS is my first nintendo videogame, and my first handheld ever - I even bought an nds lite that will arrive in a few weeks to play pokemon against my sis, but this phat boy needs to be fixed for that

Oh, I forgot to mention; I'll be getting also an external battery and multi usb charging cable. I don't think either of them will work on my DS as-is, but it's worth a try. Either way, thechinical assistance is probably the right option right now.

If USB charging cable does not work as well, then my only guess is hardware issue. You can take apart of you Phat to see if F1 or F2 fuse is blown. You can also try to clean the plug to see if that helps.

Also, try to save up money and buy an official brand charger. I know generic ones are cheap, but they are not as good as the official one.

Out of curiosity, what voltages are you using? 120V or 240V? Brazil seems to use both.

Yeah, Brazil uses both, but in my region it's 110~120V.

Also, I wonder where I could get an original one... It's an NDS PHAT, hardly anything original for it is left around >:
And I don't have the slightest idea of how much it would cost... XD But yeah, I usually spend extra money to keep my videogames running when things are getting really bad.

About Disassembling, can't do that >: the screws are the trigram ones, I don't have anything to open that without damaging them and risk locking up the DS with a screw that can't spin at all.
