Hey, guys. I just bought a 1TB Western Digital drive for my modded Wii and I formatted using Guiformat and converted it to MBR using Windows Cmd Prompt. I was having problems until I get all these things and now it works but I'm worried. I've been hearing that 3.0 is not super compatible with the original Wii and that people need Y-Cables.

So, far I haven't had any problem booting up but I'm worried if I need a Y-Cable to avoid any potential long-term issues I may face. Hopefully someone has experience with this. I don't want my drive to be damaged, it doesn't have an outside power source, I'm only using Port 0.

If it's working fine you don't need a y cable. If it wasn't getting enough power you'd know it. Generally it's WiiU consoles, not the original Wii, that have underpowered usb ports requiring either a y-cable or an external power source

Okay thanks for making that distinction.
