MAMDANI WINS NYC - OVER ONE MAMDILLION VOTES, HIGHEST SINCE 1969

Zohran Mamdani has won in New York City seemingly with over 50% of the vote amidst historic voter turnout, crushing the talking point that he would fly into office on the back of the Cuomo/Sliwa vote split. The 34 year old Democratic Socialist who has swept the nation over the last several months will begin his term on the 1st of January, replacing the embattled Eric Adams administration.

Said the mayor-elect on his vanquished rival, Andrew Cuomo; "I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the final time I utter his name." Cuomo was previously the governor of the state of New York, but suffered a fall from grace after scandals around his covering up of COVID deaths in aged care homes and 13 separate accusations of sexual assault forced him to resign in 2021. He was unsuccessful at defeating Mamdani in the Democratic primary, but stayed on as an independent. It seems in my opinion that Andrew Cuomo has a hard time understanding the word, "No."

Mamdani plans on a swath of reforms, including free buses, universal child care, low-cost grocery stores, and a temporary rent freeze while he builds a promised 200,000 units of low-income housing to address the housing crisis in New York. All this will be paid for by a 2% income tax hike on millionaires and higher, and increasing the corporate tax rate to the same level as in New Jersey, 11%.

Over two million people voted in this election, with an expected final total around 2.3 million. Mamdani himself won over half the vote, with over one million votes counted for the mayor-elect as of 90.5% of the votes counted. Both are feats not matched since 1969's mayoral race. NYC vote counts have been trending downward since then, but this is a sign that political engagement is on the rise in the Big Apple, and indeed, over the entire United States of America.

no, the allegations were dropped amidst talk of hush money and significant backlashes against the women who came forward
according to an investigation by the new york times, cuomo's sister spent about two years working with grassroots organizations to discredit all the women and ruin their lives

Generally why mamdani won was he was young and charasmatic, he mostly stayed to core issues affecting people and generally avoided talking about social justice issues (woke shit). Even trump wasnt mentioned that often in his speeches, he didnt want to be seen as yet another orange man bad candiate and actually ran on the issues.


Now as a resident of nyc im not really worried, like 90-95% of his political agenda can not be enacted due to the state actually controlling alot of what goes on in nyc. Bascially he wrote a ton of checks that cant be cashed, promosing to give people free shit only goes so far. He will have control of the nypd and "might" be able to do his rent freeze but there is going to be a ton of lawsuits as usual.
