What are the recommended settings to run ps1 at full speed?

Edit: Also, where i can obtain the most recent core?
The default settings should be enough to get fullspeed emulation on the Ps1 Core? what game are you trying to play?

The latest PS1 Core you can get from build in my sig ;)

@woooody can you try this Fbneo Core please to confirm if it still crashes?
I tried to load Xmen Vs Street fighter and it booted fine this side :)

LINK
After some testing with this new FBNeo core, I have found it does indeed work, however .7z support has been lost...meaning roms must be in .zip.

2 strange issues with this...

1. If you have 1943.zip and 1943.7z in the same folder, both will boot and play but without the .zip rom, there will be a white screen / white screen error depending on the game. For example, NEO games give details what is missing and others (1943) only give white screen.

2. As long as your rom(s) are in .zip, the BIOS can be in .7z. For example, NEO 2020 Baseball and 3 Count Bout will play as long as the ROM is in .zip format and the NeoGeo bios can be in .7z

Roms in .7z format worked in the previous Aroma build? I've always used zip, I never realised you could use 7z as an alternative.

Yes.:) I pulled my FBNeo roms straight from my PC build (all FBNeo arcade roms and all FBNeo console roms) which were all in 7z. They all worked straight away on the previous build. Not a big deal for me though, I have almost completed the conversion process to .zip.

A few other notes if I could ...
FBA 2012 works very well with this current build. It was hit/miss with previous build but now fully working in my tests.

MAME 2000 is broken but not a concern since you have provided more than enough Arcade compatibility.

Watara Supervision potator core is MIA, can this be added in the future please?

Thanks for everything, very appreciated. :)

OK, I have reported the issue to Quarky, but they're not on yet. I'll post back here if its something they can fix, tho its possible its a Core rather than a Retroarch issue that's popped in between builds, we'll see.. but for now its good that zip works :P
If you notice any more Cores missing tell me I'll compile them asap :)

Every game i try runs pretty bad and has graphical glitches, btw im using an older version of retroarch because i have crazymac aroma version and it works with an older version, when i try to update it the whole thing gets broken.

but now i have the question, It is possible to use a more recent core with a previous version of retroarch?

The latest build is the one you posted in the previous page (749) right? if thats so, there is no pcsx core included.

I've never used Crazymacs but from what I know its pretty old, really your better off using the RA Aroma build linked in my sig if you want a more stress free experience but its up to you :P

Its best to not mix cores between versions, it can cause more problems.

Can you link me your Pcsxrearmed version? so I can try my side thanks.
I know there no Pcsxrearmed Core in build in my 749 post, that's because that build doesn't have the necessary Dynarec/Threading changes required to make Pcsxrearmed Core fullspeed (these changes will be added later)
The best performing version of the Pcsxrearmed Core is in the build in my sig. ;)

oh im not using the original crazymac, i was refering to the aroma version from this yt video, which i think it is using one of the first aroma build that came out.
So the build i should download for ps1 games is the one you posted in page 711? i could try it but the thing is that the crazymac one has a lot of fancy stuff like a theme for the menu, thumbnails and borders for games which i really like to have, i already tried to update before but the gui gets messed up and kinda broken, but again, i could try getting the build to work, maybe the problems can be fixed.

sure i can link the pcsx core i have.

Roms compressed with ZIP worked perfectly with this core. Also, mgba core worked without any issues.
All that's left is for PCSX ReARMed and PicoDrive cores to be added, and it'll be perfect.
Thank you.

I've downloaded the crazymac build from the yt vid you linked and edited the playlists.lpl's and retoarch.cfg files to support the new paths and added the old picodrive and pcsx cores. Just extract the zip here to your sd card.. This may break your crazymac setup so to be safe backup your retroarch.cfg and playlists.lpl files

EDIT: LOL I bet it would be helpful if I actually uploaded the file.. my bad LOL

Cool, thanks!
Last night i tried updating the setup with the build from page 711, it worked fine and i could get ps1 to run great too, but i had to downgrade the cores (except for the pcsx core) to the ones from the crazymac one because something related to shaders made the content to display only a red screen and i was clueless on how to fix it. The gui problem was also present, downgrading cores also fixed it, except for the pcsx one, launching content from that core and returning to the RA menu makes the gui a bit broken (what happen is that the custom icons and theme gets like reverted to a simple one, the menu gets laggier and navigating between options skips elements which in playlists it make imposible to select specific games. restarting retroarch fix it)

But overall everything works great and i'm satisfied with the results.
I just wish i could fix these two problems i had.

To those interested...I was wondering what other users are using for xml/dat files for FBA, MAME 2003+ and FBNeo cores? Are there any that were being distributed in the community I am not aware of? If not, I can link what I have put together for others to use.

Since the DAT file size is limited to under 4mb for Wii U to read, I have split the MAME 2003+ xml into 3 DAT files and also using a mish-mash for FBA I found on the web and .30 I had backed up.

For the latest FBNeo core @ploggy compiled (09/24/25), i installed the (09/25/25) FBNeo release and generated the DAT files. FBNeo Arcade xml is split into 4 DAT files and obviously Neo Geo has its own.

My PC FBNeo rom set is complete from 08/11/24 which worked very well from previous builds core, including all consoles as well. With this update however, some games will not work, they must be updated to coincide with the new core.

My original rom set is Non-Merged and online support no longer exists afaik since that 08/11/24 release. It is something I kept up with for 2-3 years until support was lost but all good things end eventually.

So what I have done is updated the roms that no longer work (10-12) and also updated others that gave the blue yield logo (140). These updated roms are Merged but work 100% with the others through PC and Wii U.

Almost all the console romsets are now hit/miss or broken unless I rebuild and that is not gonna happen soon. I am complacent with the older FBNeo build on my PC with a full working Arcade parent/merged set for Wii U.

I urge anyone reading to update your FBNeo roms soon. If you need access to the 09/25/25 emulator (PC, sorry I don't have MAC), PM me.

Post if interested in my split DAT files.:)

I'm not sure if this will help you but you can grab the Fbneo dats from the Fbneo source.
https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo/tree/master/dats
I've had issues in the past generating Fbneo/Mame playlists using the dats from within RA WiiU (probably due to the 4MB limit you mentioned) I ended up creating the Fbneo playlist on PC RA and renaming the paths to match WiiU RA :P
But that was ages ago I haven't tried since.

Hi, @wiiu3ds @ploggy,
You are using the package I created to adapt CrazyMac to Ploggy's Retroarch Aroma.

It is from the beginning of this year, but I had not noticed that Ploggy had recently updated its package. I will soon create a new version, with the mame2003_Xtreme core, which is very interesting to use with all Sega System 32 games not supported by Final Burn Alpha. I know, I have to make a feedback on it but I'm late !

Hey guys BIG announcement time lol

The Aroma Port that has been in limbo for the last year due to the issue with slow Core loading/Rom loading has been fixed thanks to a new Aroma CFW update :D :D :D
This means Retroarch on Aroma is now back on the table! I tried a bunch of the Core's I compiled last year and they seem to run fine and Core swap as they're supposed to. heh :)

Downside is Core's that require Jit such as PS1 and Picodrive will have to be reworked to work properly with Aroma but the rest should work fine :D (SEE EDIT BELOW)

Vid of Aroma RA in action...

Here's a full Retroarch package with Cores and a Retroarch wuhb file so you can have a Retroarch icon to launch from the Home Menu!

Don't mix Tiramisu Retroarch Cores with Aroma ones and don't attempt to update your Cores through Retroarch... Your asking for trouble if you do ;)
Best to rename your current Retroarch folder if you have one, the link I've posted has the Retroarch folder all setup so its just a straight extract to SD root, insert sd, load Aroma then load the Retroarch icon (white instead of black) :P

Try it and post any issues you have and remember this is a test build ;)

https://www.mediafire.com/file/975e3lc5jo0j2h2/Aroma_Cores_Extract_to_SD_Card.zip/file
(CHECK MY EDIT 3 BELOW FOR THE NEWEST BUILD)

EDIT: Thanks to the work of @Vague Rant we now have working Pcsxreamed and Picodrive Aroma Cores!!! (included in the link)

EDIT2: If your getting audio issues with the PS1 Core do this:
Go into the RA Settings and change the Audio Driver to Axpro
Change the audio Sample Rate to 44100
Load a PS1 game and save a Core Override (in the In-Game Menu) this will save you having to keep changing the Audio Driver/Sample Rate everytime ;)
Audio issues should be fixed!

EDIT 3: A new and improved build is available that adds....
  • More cores have been added, we should be pretty close if not the same as Tiramisu in terms of core compatibility. Thanks to Vague Rant, Maschell, QuarkTheAwesome
  • PS1 Core should have another perf bump too, with extra threading additions to the ingame options menu. Thanks to vrda :)
  • We now have the ability to open the WiiU Menu and close Retroarch with the Home button. Just like an official app :D Thanks to Maschell
  • Added ability to use Threaded Video.. Option added to Video/Output Setting. Thanks to vrda
  • RA's Assets (which was the cause of the slow loading) is now built into the Retroarch wuhb, so it doesn't have to read it each time you switch Core/load rom, that helps loading speeds massively!
  • Other misc changes I cant remember right now :P

i noticed that if you try to leave Retroarch by pressing the home button, the wii u will be stuck loading the wii menu infinitely, also, turning off the wii u while in retroarch, will cause the console to freeze next time you turn it on again and open the app once more, is this a known issue?

It is a known issue and should be fixed in the new build posted here..

Hi, yeh there's a new build available but you should know the paths have reverted back to sd:/ from fs:/vol/external01 so you'll have to take that into account. :)

Also heres the mame2003 xtreme Core (since its not included in the new build)
