Three U. S. Aegis guided-missile destroyers are expected to arrive near Venezuela within 24 hours as part of the Trump administration's strategy to combat threats from drug cartels in Latin America. The ships involved are the USS Graverly, USS John Dunham, and the USS Sampson. The U. S. military previously announced deployments of over 4,000 sailors and marines to the Caribbean to intensify efforts against drug trafficking.

This military mobilization comes after the U. S. doubled the bounty for capturing Venezuelan President Maduro to $50 million. The recent seizure of $700 million in Maduro's assets was also announced. In response, the Venezuelan government criticized the U. S. as desperate and lacking credibility, denying involvement in drug trafficking.

President Maduro announced a plan to mobilize 4.5 million militia members and emphasized that Venezuelans would defend their territory against foreign threats. He did not directly address the U. S. military presence but questioned the existence of U. S. bases in Colombia, viewing them as humiliating. On Tuesday, Maduro's regime also banned drone flights over Venezuelan territory for 30 days.

From what I recall, Maduro may have rigged his own election, so I'm not gonna be his cheerleader or anything. I can't say that he's wrong in standing up to Trump, however, as it wouldn't be out of character for this administration to want to create human and drug trafficking rings in the country for themselves. Their intentions for all this saber rattling/warmongering can't be good, in any case.

I mean we're mostly deploying our military against our own civilians at the moment, and a blackout drunkard is secretary of defense, so yeah, we're certainly weaker than we have been in a long time. Tulsi Gabbard is also cutting all intelligence agencies staffing by half, so it won't be at all surprising if foreign terrorist attacks starting getting through.

not one for mass casualites but sometimes a swift kick in the nuts is what we need to make us realize "oh how we f*cked up" pretty sure none of this shit would happen if harris was in more stern to israel over the palisitinian war (just a guess but if the famine existed it that reality, we wouldn't be allies anymore)

I must have missed this. Since when do drug cartels have a personal sea navy?

I equally don't get the response. Prohibit done flights: yes. Wanting to get rid of US navy bases: yes (heck... I want that for Belgium as well). But mobilizing millions of troops? It takes more than 4000 soldiers to invade a country, so it sounds like serious overkill.

I think this is an awesome move and it's about time Maduro gets what is coming to him, earlier yesterday one of his drug smuggling boats was blown to bits by the US.

It's not just a cartel, the whole Venezuelan government is the cartel, they do have boats, planes, and a lot of resources, and they're killing a lot of Americans while Maduro gets richer and richer, on top of ruling over a country that didn't even elect him. Imagine if the Mexican cartels, which are already massive, were being puppetered by the Mexican government.

So finally war is a great thing, got you. I can still hear the GOP cultists saying: well, at least Trump did not start a new war, that's why I vote for him. Now Agent Orange is:

- taking part in the complete destruction of Gaza
- attacking Iran without any sort of war declaration
- sending warships to Venezuela
- mobilizing the army against the US population
- Making a war criminal acceptable on the international stage again

Being MAGA most be really hard those days. I cannot imagine what it feels like if you need to bend your mind every other week. All of this just to be able to continue to lick boots and kiss the old orange ass every day.

This is objectively a good thing and the funny thing is that you could ask almost anyone on Venezuela and they would be cheering for this. The Maduro regime has been allowed to go on for too long and after all the Tren de Aragua members they sent to the US while Biden was in charge, the people they killed, the drugs they smuggled, yes they absolutely deserve to get steamrolled. This is one of the few "wars" that we SHOULD be involved in as it directly affects us. Hell I think we should have done this when Chavez was still alive, just a reminder that Chavez daughter has a bigger net worth than Trump. Every single person in that scumbag criminal family deserves to face justice.

Also I am not MAGA nor care about the GOP, I'm not sure who you are referring to but you should try to get out of your ideological box a little.

If that's true you surely can show some numbers to support your claim, I guess?

I just learnt one thing in life: violence is causing violence. Once the killing starts it's hard to make it stop again for all involved parties. Sometimes it will take longer until revenge is served but it will certainly happen. Also innocent people will die as usual. Military intelligence isn't always 100% accurate, you should know. The best ways to fight drugs are actually:

1. Research for lesser addictive / less lethal substitutes
2. A solid public Healthcare
3. A solid public education about drugs, their effects and consequences of frequent usage
4. Strict border control

To be honest, I don't see point 1-3 under the current administration. In the end this is all more or less about science and education and Trump "love(s) the uneducated", apparently for reasons

Looking at point 4 I'm also not that sure. There's a lot of funds assigned to this but looking at the current actions of the administration I'd tend to say even themselves do not really have trust in their own work. Otherwise they probably wouldn't start to tackle a problem that is easier, cheaper and more peaceful to solve by other means than military intervention.

Killing people should always be the last resort and I'm sort of sad to see that big chunks of the world population still seem to haven't learnt this. Seriously: we all should strive to do better. We are slowly again drifting into normalizing killing people, just like almost 100 years ago.

That's a long post but to be honest you sound like you don't understand just what really is going on in Venezuela, I assume you live in Europe or not in the Americas?

And yes, this was in 2020, I can guarantee you that this sentiment has tripled since the sham election last year. The time for "talk" or whatever ended long ago, I agree with you that killing should always be the last resort, but that is the thing, this IS the last resort. Maduro is not getting out any other way. And I say Maduro but really it's more like Diosdado Cabello and the Chavez family, Maduro is just a puppet, that whole government needs to hang, their corruption makes ours look like a joke.

In another thread you wonder why people are openly wishing Trump dead.
Here you post how he orders the military to do a terrorist attack on an unarmed civilian vessel in international waters over a thousand kilometers from the USA.

Is not a drug boat. It's an ALLEGED drug boat. Alleged by Donald Trump. So you can put that in the same sentences as 'Mexico is allegedly paying for the border wall', 'Donald Trump is allegedly a good business man', 'covid is allegedly gone by summer 2020', 'the 1/6 insurrection was allegedly peaceful (unless infiltrated by antifa) ' and 'tariffs are allegedly being paid by the countries of origin'.

Hahaha I was waiting for some European who has never set foot in a third world country to post a completely sheltered reply like this. What exactly did you think this "unarmed civilian vessel" (a dingy boat in international waters heading for the US) was doing? Go ahead, I want to see how your mind works, who do you think these people are? And what are they doing? I honestly can't tell if you're being obtuse on purpose or you're actually this sheltered.

Venezuela is not an actual country, it's a failed narcostate (not uncommon fate of leftist government, let's call it "late stage socialism"), Diosdado Cabello is the head of the Cartel de los Soles (he is also is the actual ruler of the country, being one of Hugo Chavez most trusted advisors, with Maduro as a front) , they don't make money legitimately, unless you think Maria Chavez is worth 4.2 billion because she's very good at her job. Honestly I noticed most people replying on this thread, despite the fact they have TDS, were very careful in making comments about the political situation in Venezuela because they simply don't know enough about it and don't want to make a fool of themselves, but you did not hesitate one bit.

This is also not new, they have been operating since the early 2000s shortly after Chavez won his first term, and members of his government have been captured here and there smuggling drugs and extradited to the US.

Well, you know what? @Taleweaver is actually right. In a democratic society you would actually need to present some definite proof for such claims ("there's drugs on this boat"). That is basically what sets a democratic society and a (fascist) regime apart. It would also not be the first time the US administration raised such claims and later got caught lying. Remember WMD in Iraq? That's probably the most extreme example. Here's something to help you remember should you have forgotten: https://www.democracynow.org/2006/8/22/president_bush_admits_iraq_had_no

I completely understand that gathering real proofs for crimes can be tiresome. I also anticipate that getting from proven crimes to follow-up actions in democratic societies can be a painful process but this is the essence of what sets democratic societies apart from regimes, usually.

Looking at the current state of the law in the US tells me one thing: the Administration doesn't care for justice. The strongest reason I have for this assumption is that the Administration is trying their best to prevent due process for what they see as "Alien Enemies" (that is unwanted humans, mind you), while at the same time no one profited from the constitutional rights like the Orange Imperator himself: https://www.theatlantic.com/newslet...t=TGmfF3jF0Ivzok_5xSjbx8t75kIfjVbL46bKKq7Griw

You are btw making a lot of assumptions about people. Based on a small icon under a user avatar your think you are able to judge what any user on here has experienced in their lives. That's really immature and somehow shows that there's no reason to have a faithful dialog with you, honestly.

I still stand with my points that I provided earlier on this thread. This is not how you should solve a drug problem in your own country. The problem here is that the current US Administration is a bunch of ignorant morons: they don't believe in science, education and facts. These things actually scare them which is why they want to destroy and discredit them but let me tell you one thing: these things will not go away if you just close your eyes and ears hard enough and in the long-run they will always win. If the GOP was actually smart they would not strive to be another Russia, but to be another China, if they want to be successful and somewhat authoritarian.

I am not sure why you keep going off a long winded tangent to whine about Trump.

Let me ask you a simple question, what was this boat, and what do you think it was doing? I know you don't actually know, but what would be your guess as to what a dingy boat with 11 people in it sailing to the US in international waters carrying cocaine (allegedly, I'm sure they could be carrying fish too) was for?

I am so glad Kamala did not win and we are finally getting something done about this instead of doing nothing and making deals with Venezuela instead like Biden was doing, huge bullet dodged.

No one can say what this boat was but I wouldn't even trust Trump with my daughter so why should I just trust his words? You said earlier that you are not part of his cult but your blind trust is telling another story. You don't care for justice, logic or even for being a decent human being  Cult member identified :!:

If you cannot agree to:

you are a lost cause anyway and I don't see you agreeing here. So tell me: where are the proofs? Your Orange Messiah's word is not enough!

You are so obsessed about Trump that you are incapable of accepting when he does a good thing. This is pretty dangerous and I feel like you should work on your TDS because going to bat for cartel members just because you hate a politician is pretty outrageous. You speak of being "a decent human being" yet you defend the Cartel de los Soles? Wow.

You know what is going to happen next? Maduro is going to put "families" and innocent people kidnapped by the government into these boats so that next time one is blown out, there will be outrage, weaponizing the empathy of people like you. You are actively making the world a worse place by allowing tyrants to do whatever they want.

Not to mention all the families that have lost their children to the opioid epidemic? What about people like Laken Riley who lost their lives because Maduro kept emptying the prisons of Venezuela and sent them here to destabilize us? no empathy for them?

If you care about democracy so much then where is your outrage for Venezuela? A country ran by an actual homicidal dictator? All you care about is Trump Trump Trump, you need help.
