Hey i'm ShiroSATA from Source Macchiato !
Thanks for referencing all this ^^ It would be cool to make a store (outside of the HB store) where you can freely download all these ports. I'm seriously thinking about making one. A lot of people aren't aware of these
Hey thanks for your great ports. Wouldn't it be possible to put all the ports on the HB store since it's already accepted by the community? There are already some ports on it. Why the effort for making a new one instead of using one which is already working?

Most of the ports aren't open source and are considered piracy due to using Nintendo's SDK with Unity and they're fundamental rules against the store. I believe they've tried to submit FNaF but were rejected mainly due to being closed source and using the SDK which is not open source either.

Ah ok. Then an own store for ports would make sense. The important thing is that the news for a new port must be spread. If it's via the new store, gbatemp threads or itch.io. Although it would be neat to have it directly from the wii u to install to the usb drive

Isn't there a Wii U homebrew store app to upload to? Might only be available on Tiramisu (or earlier), but I'm nearly certain there is one that you can upload your works too. And I wouldnt be shocked if there is an Aroma equivalent by now either at that.

So I've been having some issues with a few of these ports, if anyone knows how to fix or also had the same problem, please let me know!
  • General Issues: all of the ports that use .rpx files freeze when leaving on Aroma (on Tiramisu works just fine), probably because they're trying to go to the HBL, and Aroma doesn't have it. And weirdly enough, the same doesn't happen with .rpx apps, like Disc2App, Theme Manager, Decaffeinator, etc.
  • Space Cadet Pinball: work fine on Aroma (except for the leaving thing), but on Tiramisu is simply doesn't open.
  • Crispy Doom U: works fine on Tiramisu, but on Aroma it shows a black screen. The game is working as I can hear the sounds, but it's not displaying anything.
  • Sonic CD: freezes and leaves a black screen on both Aroma and Tiramisu.
  • Sonic 1 and 2: the games work fine on both Aroma (except for the leaving thing) and Tiramisu, but the Forever and Absolute mods simply don't work (tried everything possible: renaming, putting inside a folder, removing from a folder, using older versions, you name it). And also, when pausing the game with "+", I'm unable to unpause on Aroma, while on Tiramisu it works just fine.

The latest few releases of Absolute and Forever simply do not work on the Wii U. You have to use the version from a few releases ago, can't recall which one off-hand, but it's the releases right before Amy became built into the mods as a playable character. These versions work great!

I would say a news app via pretendo or something would be ideal for the case of the ports, since many need the original files to work. That way, we can announce them, since we cant distribute the ports for them having 3rd party software. Or something else.

Tried to use the versions on the original post, as well as one after, but they don't seem to be working either, it's like the mods aren't even there, as the game boots normally, without the mods. Here's the SD Card structure for Sonic 2 (let me know if anything is wrong):

And also, forgot to mention earlier, but when pausing the game with "+", I'm unable to unpause on Aroma, while on Tiramisu it works just fine.

I mean HB Store already has a section for games and most of these aren't there. I know many require game files but they could just include the main files and give instructions in the description so the user provides the copyrighted material from their bought copies and dumps. EDIT: I just read the reasons, however the PRetendo idea proposed is a very cool one indeed. Maybe just a community different to the Homebrew Launcher one, where they themselves anounce or highlight homebrew ports

I'm super curious why Vita seems to get quite a few more of these kinds of ports than WiiU. The two consoles saw about equivalent amounts of success, I feel like so you'd think there'd be somewhat equivalent support bases.

I wonder if it's easier, or if running these games on an OLED device is just that much more motivating.

Still love the WiiU ports we do get, mostly wondering/looking out for them for a buddy who has less platforms to game on but has a hacked WiiU to leverage.

A lot of the time, it's because porting to Wii also catches the Wii U. Sure, the Vita can emulate the PSP, but the Wii U is backwards compatible.

So some of these have Wii ports i could be leveraging on WiiU as well?

I recently found this repo but idk about how legit it can be, as it used chatGPT (only for the readme apparently though) and I can't seem to get it to work, my builds always crash at startup: https://github.com/xtomasnemec/Balatro-Wii-U
It seems legit, but sadly I'm unable to test it as Docker is being a pain in the ass to setup.
