Didn't really know where to put this as it's more of an N64 question than anything else.

But I just got me a SummerCart 64 (it's like an Everdrive but newer, Open source, and much cheaper). My Wii is Homebrewed and I have the Virtual Console version of Paper Mario on it, and was wanting to get back to playing it, but instead through my SummerCart and would rather not start over. Is it at all possible to convert the VC version save file to something the SummerCart can read?

The SummerCart uses GameName.sav for the name and extension, the VC seems to be in "data.bin" format. I already tried the rudimentary approach by changing the VC save file name and extension...that didn't work. Is there anything I can use to convert it?

Thanks.

EDIT: I used that savefileconverter site, and had to route the data.bin through three converters (Wii VC > Emulator. Emulator > Flash Cart. .srm > .sav.

But for whatever reason this has caused the data to be lost. Paper Mario recognizes it, but my save file was blank. So I started a new one, played long enough until I could save and it just overwrote the converted file I had there. Which tells me this process worked, but why I lost my profile through conversions, I don't understand.

EDIT 2: It is possible! I finally managed to get it. I didn't do anything different though, so why it didn't work the first time (my first edit), I'm not sure.

I've been trying this with Pokemon Snap and just can't get it to work! I've managed to get it to load with my save on the Summercart but none of my data is there, it just says new game!

So here's what I did exactly.

1. Used the Wii VC to Emulator converter. Which made the "data.bin" file convert to "data.fla".
2. Then I used the Emulator to Flash Cart converter. This is where I ran into a strange issue, the data.fla file is supposed to convert to .srm with that one, but it wasn't doing that...the Flash Cart side of things wants to keep it .fla. So right before I hit "Convert", I manually changed the file extension to .srm and to my surprise it worked just fine.
3. I then used the .srm to .sav converter (and made sure to rename the file to "Paper Mario (USA).srm before converting).

After that I put it on my SD card, popped that back into the SummerCart and my save was there and it worked great. So it sounds like you're having the same issue I had in my first attempt, where Paper Mario recognized the save file itself, but my save just wasn't there. The only difference with my second attempt was that I manually changed the file extension.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Still struggling to get Snap to work weirdly. When I use the Wii VC to Emulator converter, Did you manually change the extension to data.fla? Because mine just defaults to data.sav. I must be going wrong somewhere along the line. I've only got 3 saves to convert as well so not many!

Sorry, I never saw your reply for some reason. So I'm super late. Did you ever manage to get this to work?

No worries!

No I didn't weirdly. Quite frustrating!
Hmm, well based on what you were asking in your last post. The Wii VC to Emulator part, it was changing the file extension from .bin to .fla on its own. It wasn't until I needed to use the Emulator to Flash Cart converter where I had to change it from .fla to .srm manually.

I'll give it another go this weekend hopefully and come back to you. Would love to get it working, I only have a couple of saves from my Wii VC to move to my SummerCart! Mainly Pokemon Snap.
