Hi everyone,

Last night I installed homebrew browser and usb loader gx via modmii. Homebrew browser worked fine. However, attempting to run a game off sd card via usb loader gx caused my wii to brick(no longer gives signal for TV to recognize). I noticed the usb loader gx UI was different from usb loader gx from tutorial youtube videos. Can somebody please double check to make sure modmii is installing the latest version of USB Loader GX or there are no problems? I already ordered a used wii from walmart and am going to attempt to try to mod it again but am scared that usb loader will brick that one as well.

@XFlak What do you think about this?

I think we were already discussing this in the other thread, best to keep it all in one place, but since you asked, I agree with CMDreamer
It seem more like a hardware failure than a software brick.

ok, thanks for information. The reason I created two threads was because I wasn't sure on what caused the brick. When I made the first thread, I was looking for any advice on unbricking the wii. My post on this thread was to confirm the fault was not with modmii. I already ordered a refurbished wii from walmart and will attempt to mod that one. My main takeaway from everyone's advice is that my wii bricked due to hardware problems that were unavoidable. Another takeaway is that if I mod a new wii with modmii, there shouldn't be any problems with using usbloader gx.

Hello, I had syscheck.vs analyzed via modmi. It gave me wad files. It wanted me to install these .wad files with yavmm. But I have some questions. Which one is correct, installing these IOS files like regular game/channelforwarder .wad or installing using cios map like d2x loader?

I've never used "yavmm" before, I'm familiar with the MMM interface, I usually install games and other channel .wads via MMM.
Also, I ran this MODmii on Windows 7 :) Naturally, I did the analysis with something like Modmii version 7.0.3. Was it right or wrong?
and finally, I don't have any problems with the wii I use. I don't have any problems. I can open every game copied from USB. Should I do these updates or do you think I should leave it like this if nothing is broken?
Greetings and respects to everyone..

Modmii would have given you a custom guide to follow, and told you to use yawmme. If you use MMM to install the wads it's fine, but generally yawmme should be used as it will prevent u from doing some things that might cause brick (not applicable in this case since what modmii provided won't be brick-blocked anyway), and it also allows u to install a new system menu while retaining priiloader.

Modmii has you install cios's in wad form, so no need to use the d2x cios installer wii app, end result is the same however.

In your case, modmii's recommendations will mostly be to clean up /remove some unnecessary things (E.g. 202-247). In the unlikely event that u have manually configured some games to use hermes cios (202,222-224), you can enable that in Modmii's options. That being said, hermes shouldn't be needed any longer given you have the latest d2x cios.

Edit: so basically in your case, it's fine to either follow the recommendations or leave as is

Dear xFlak, I Dont Want to broke a working system I'm worried that it break after installation. That's why I consulted you.
As far as I understand, we can select and load .wad directly from yawmm without having to set ios number, ios base, ios version, ios slot etc. like d2x Loader.
The modmii was given to me in stubs to install.
stub.wads.png

and gave me other .wads that I needed to update.

diger_wads.png

I'll load the stubs first and test them, then load the others one by one, so I guess it's guaranteed. I'll try opening the game after each .wad load?

Or if you say forget about it, these won't affect your gameplay or break your system, that's a different matter of course.

What do you say? What should I do? :)

Edit : Ok. I loaded all updates and still it works :) Have a nice days to Everybody..

XFlak, If I wanted to install a custom IOS 80 with my own version of Fakemote, can ModMii help? I can see where i can download all manor of wads, but i don't see (or understand) how I might inject my own patched version of Fakemote into IOS 80 safely.

Also, does the homebrew channel use ios 58? Would it be better to patch ios 58 with my fakemote, or change the ios it uses to a cios that is patched?

ModMii generally isn't designed for the average user to make their own custom cios, but these are the steps.

Enable the latest d2x with fakemote in Modmii's options. Navigate to the support/d2x-beta folder, replace the fakemote module with your custom one, and adjust the cios name in the bat file and tags (multiple) in the XML files, careful not to exceed the maximum permitted string length (details noted in the bat file comments). Technically changing the name and tag isn't necessary, but if you don't, it will appear to be the same as the original in filename and even in syscheck logs.

After that, u can run Support/d2x-beta-md5-updater.bat, and that's it. It will even bundle everything up in a zip for you to be able to easily share the cios with others to be able to add to their modmii installations. If you skip this step, when you use modmii to build your cios it will be reported as invalid and deleted (you can force modmii to keep invalid downloads by adding set keepinvalidoverride=Y to your settings.bat file, but it's intended only for advanced users, and even then it should be removed when you're done whatever you're testing)

Now you can build your custom cios however you like in modmii. To change the slot you can use modmii classic's advanced download page. If the slot you want to use is restricted (for your protection), just build it for any slot, then open the wad in modmii afterwards to modify it how you like. I advise that you don't mess with your system menu IOS, if you do, it would be smart to have bootmii installed as boot2 first. Note priiloader allows you to change the ios used by the system menu, this is much safer (although unfortunately broken for now in the last official version of priiloader).

The homebrew channel can use various IOSs, but generally it's 58, and if it's not, modmii would assist users in making it so.

I can't comment on what's better, all of this stuff is experimental, and you should be prepared to run into issues and revert if something goes wrong.

I hope this was helpful. Good luck, be careful, and have fun!

Hello everyone!

I have an old Wii that I recently started using again. I remember it working fine with both Wii and GameCube games through softmods.

But now it only works with GameCube games.

I decided to update all the softmods, but I'm still getting a black screen when playing Wii games.

I used ModMii to update from my Syscheck and I'm currently getting the message: According to your SysCheck log your Wii's softmods are up to date.

Using App Updater I'm getting the message: 8 OSC Wii apps were confirmed to already be up to date (or newer). The list of apps is: ARCME, d2x-cios-installer, LoadPriiloader, Nintendont, priiloader, SysCheckME, usbloader_gx and yawmME.

I'm only using the SD card. I'm not using USB sticks or hard drives. The SD card is in FAT32 format, 32k cluster size.

The structure of the card is:

apps
games
saves
wbfs
installer.log
IOS38-64-v4124.wad
IOS56-64-v5662.wad
IOS57-64-v5919.wad
IOS58-64-v6176.wad
IOSsyscheck.log
nincfg.bin
SysCheck.csv

I believe the problem is that only my IOS58 and IOS251 access USB 2.0, as described in SysCheck:

In usb loader gx I am using IOS249 for loader and auto for games.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

Thank you very much!

Softmods seem fine, double check your games are named correctly, use wii backup manager to make sure. This can happen if they're not named correctly, although it may change in the final version of gx that's yet to be released, but coming soon (I think in that version games just won't even display if not named right). I'm not sure if other loaders are as strict in the naming convention, but it's a small price to pay for all the new bells and whistles that blackb0x has added to gx over the last few years!

Hi, Flak. I'm glad to hear from you.

I'm using both Wii Backup Manager and GameCube Backup Manager to transfer games to the SD card.

Both types of games are listed correctly on usb loader gx and things like transferring covers are working correctly for both. When I tried to use a USB stick or hard drive, they were listed only when I use IOS58 or IOS251 as loader. I believe this is because IOS249 or 250 does not have access to the USB port.

One piece of information that may be important: I used the d2x cios installer to remove the mods from IOS202, 222, 223 and 224. Could this have caused any problems?

Should I try the beta version of USB Loader GX?

Hello!

I found the problem: my console's Bluetooth board is faulty.

Since my Wii boots from the priiiloader and goes straight to the HBC and I use a GC Controller, I didn't notice that my System Menu doesn't run and the Wii Remote doesn't connect.

I'm going to look for a replacement board and I believe that the problem with Wii games will be solved.

Thank you for your attention.

Hey everyone, i'm currently trying to mod my wii for the first time, but the modmii download manager keeps running into issues downloading files, ive gotten it to download most of the files by disabling my firewall but it says its still missing wilbrand, any tips for how to proceed?

It should be working, but if that's the only missing download, u can proceed without it. Your guide will have an alternate exploit u can use in place of wilbrand (str2hax and letterbomb)
Hey XFlak, hope you are doing well. Nice to meet you and thank you very much for everything you have done for the community. I'm pretty new to the console modding scene but I've been able to mod my Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, and now I've jumped into the Wii. I love the Wii, my brother got one for Christmas when we were younger (I got the Xbox 360), and it always will bring great memories. My partner also had one and she used to play a lot of horse games. I recently got a new Wii to relive those moments. I started buying games, which I love the idea of backing them up on a HDD for the sake of preservation. I found the wii.guide website and got working.

Spoiler alert, it has been pretty demoralising. I firstly followed the wii.guide until the end using the Wilfred exploit, got the result I will describe later. Then I followed a YouTube video installing some dubious wads, same result. After that I restored my NAND (from the first wii.guide tutorial) and tried reinstalling the various cIOS, same same. Then I downloaded ModMii and put my Syscheck for it to create a custom guide, not a different conclusion. Then I completely resoftmodded the Wii with ModMii, with the same result: Whenever the HDD that I bought is connected to the port 0, USB Loader GX will get stuck on "Reinitializing devices", Wiiflow Lite just opens to a black screen and CFG USB Loaders gets stuck on the splash screen. Heading into Syscheck, if the HDD is connected, it will freeze checking IOS249, every single time with whatever updated guide I used from wii.guide, including ModMii.

The HDD is formatted correctly (FAT32 MBR), has all the required files. I also bought a Y cable to power it externally. Nothing. I tried with a different HDD but same model. Same thing. HDDs will always be recognised by WiiXplorer or Nintendont, but the Loaders and Syscheck will always get stuck. I tried then using 2 different flash drives (knowing they aren't ideal, a 8gb and a 64gb). The 8gb works with USB Loader GX but whenever I try to open a game it will just go to a black screen. The 64gb doesn't work with GX but it will be recognised by WiiFlow, but the game opens to a black screen. I don't really know what to do at this point; I've tried to read forums, watch videos, anything. 3 days of constantly trying to solve this issue, with no real answer or pointer.
