Video output is something we gotta talk about! To illustrate, I'll compare Mega Man X4 running on my Wii through Nintendont (Mega Man X Collection) versus the PSX original on WiiStation, both using composite cables in 240p.

Despite using composite cables, WiiStation doesn't blend the dithering. I suspect WiiStation might be forcing some sort of trap filter in 240p mode, or perhaps the GameCube version is using the VI filter to smooth over the checkerboard patterns. Whatever it may be, Nintendont's video output shows the intended look of the art while WiiStation doesn't.

WiiStation is a fantastic emulator that has replaced my actual PlayStation, but I thought I was crazy when I started seeing dithering patterns all over games; turns out I was onto something! Any idea what this may be?
Keep in mind that on Wiistation you can play with Trap filter but no Bilinear and Wii's composite output is pretty clean compared to older consoles, i got that myself from doing a visual comparison with NES emulators vs My NES (tough i sorta preffer the artifacy signal of the latter and better level contrast)

The VI filter can be enabled and disabled in the video settings, under an option called "Trap" but also I'm pretty sure the Gamecube is using bilinear filtering anyways, which can also be enabled or disabled. Seeing the dithering patterns actually means you're getting a cleaner, more direct picture which yes is sometimes not how the developers expected people to see their games.
The trap filter doesn't have much effect, and the bilinear filter doesn't work in 240p.

A visual comparison (240p):

The trap filter does slightly blend the dithering but it is still noticeable, whereas the GameCube version's filter eliminates dithering entirely.

It seems the bilinear filter only works in interlaced mode. To illustrate:

The dithering is blended, but you also get interlacing, and a vertical blur. So, a HORIZONTAL-ONLY bilinear filter for 240p mode would be great!

Its funny, cause i have Wiistation at 240p with Trap Filter OFF and mine blends fine, sure, maaaaaaybe up close you can notice a bit more of a ''texture'', but on real eye to CRT visual looks what is supposed to, and again, no bilinier, also composite.

What CRT you are using bro? mine is a Panasonic Tau which isnt of my liking btw.

I'm using an LG Flatron, but I also get dithering on a cheap unbranded CRT (Trap and Bilinear both OFF):

For my part, I find dithering more noticeable the further away you are from the TV; must be something about the slot mask. Anyway, I have a PAL Wii, so perhaps WiiStation is using PAL60 instead of NTSC, resulting in "better" colours and consequently more dithering? Nintendont can be configured to use NTSC instead of PAL60, which is what I do.

Bro, that LG Flatron is a monitor, not a CRT, as for the other one, i dunno if there are any NTSC CRTs left there to test, let alone an NTSC Wii, maybe PAL60 does not blend the dither, can somebody from the US took pictures from a CRT running these as an example?

The RT-21FA35RX is definitely a CRT television, however that is besides the point as I've found the solution!

The issue was in fact PAL60 after all.

I've just used WiiModLite to force NTSC colour system-wide, and now all the dithering is gone! A setting in WiiStation to switch between NTSC and PAL60 a la Nintendont would be a nice convenience, though not really necessary given WiiModLite can achieve the same effect.

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble with @SaulFabre Wii U WiiStation Forwarder.
I recently had to do the whole "fixing system memory error 160-0103" exploit, I've managed to get everything up and running again since with the exception of a WiiStation Forwarder.
I tried the one I previously had, tried SaulFabre's one after changing the folders to match his settings and nothing. I always get a black screen and need to unplug the console to turn it off.
If I boot up the emulator from the vWii it works, this only happens when using the Forwarder.
I'd really appreciate some help trying to solve this, I just wanna game on the gamepad in peace.

Did you install the Wii U forwarder into the Wii U's NAND and not into the SD card?
Also, is the boot.dol stored correctly into this exact folder?:

sd:/apps/WiiStation/boot.dol

Yup, did exactly all of that and still nothing.
Might I be missing something else I might have overlooked?

try using another WUP installer then?

Maybe WUP Installer Y Mod instead of WUP Installer GX2?

Just downloaded that one, installed with it, same issue.
It's really weird this is happening.
Am I doing something wrong with pathing?
Should I have something in the wad folder as well?
As it stands I have these two folders right now and, again, it works when I boot it in vWii:

sd:/apps/WiiStation/
sd:/wiisxrx

Love this emulator a few issues I have encountered though which maybe someone can help with. Firstly I have tried eboots some work some freeze my Wii I guess it maybe compatibility issue. I don’t know why but I can’t load games from my usb.. sd card is fine though. Minor issues but I’m sure it probably my fault lol

Are you creating the path on your USB? Correctly I mean? Idk about eboots but try to get bin cue man, and the emulator has very few issues, you can try other emulator but it will be the same ,some issues too, hope this helps

eboots are for PSP. Your game dumps should be bin and cue.
