Errmm... Surprise!?!?!?

I wonder why this doesn't even surprises me...

USA can't deny its roots, its going back to the middle ages!

Stay tuned, in the next chapter... a Crusade! \o/ Or was it a Holy Inquisition? Or maybe both at the same time? O_o

This is getting interesting...

3 Doritos after... Trumpet Makes America Great A...hem... Yeah sure... Whatever.

Maybe this one's a stretch, but on one hand I think they're putting enforcements on these kinds of protests where it breaks laws (But at the same time what excuse did Jan 6 had?)

Yes; when protests become violent by putting other people in danger or harm's way, then appropriate enforcement needs to be taken to de-escalate the conflict in question.

The examples cited in your screenshot are outliers and not indicative of typical peaceful protests (e.g. I am a college student myself, and my school regularly organizes protests for various civil and political causes, all of which are peaceful in nature). Same logical fallacy when saying all BLM supporters are looters, all Republicans are racists, etc.

The concern with Trump's language here is that it implies that funding will stop if a protest is held, regardless of nature, in protest to Trump's actions or orders, which is a blatant violation of the First Amendment and closely in line with authoritarian/fascist suppression of free speech and human rights.

So bottom line is any protest is still allowed as long it's peaceful?

That's my concern too

Yes. Ultimately the right to protest peacefully for any cause is protected (explicitly) in the First Amendment, which is why both college protests and KKK rallies are legally protected. Free speech is a two-lane highway.

Trump's post does not specify peaceful or non-peaceful protests. The post could be interpreted either as cracking down harder on violent protests (which is interpretatively reasonable) or as a violation of free speech by suppressing non-violent ones (which is not). The viewpoint one chooses to adopt mostly depends on their political leaning.

I will note as well, as an example, that on my own college campus I've seen organized protests both in support of Israel and in support of Palestine, with clubs and groups dedicated to both causes. My college generally leans progressive but resides in an overwhelmingly conservative area. There have been no issues related to violence for protests in support of either side.

Remember all those violent protests just because George Floyd couldn't handle his fentantyl? Those were pretty stupid and should have been stopped. Palestine is possibly stupider yet.

To all the lefties crying out about the lack of "free speech warriors". in the last 8 years you have made one thing very clear. You do not care about out right to free speech and we had to adjust our principle from "free speech for everyone" to " free speech for those who support free speech", and we know that's not you.
So i would say if you were actually censored, but you weren't, instead you're not getting paid for your shitty speech anymore. That's not censorship, thats saving tax payer money. Cry me a fucking river.

Man, I love these politics threads- always so entertaining. God bless GBATempers.
The good thing is: if we're all fighting on here, it keeps us away from the streets and a potential life of crime, drugs and trading Pokémon cards with strangers.

99% of the people protesting on January 6th were peaceful. They applied for permits to be there protest and had large areas sectioned off with guard rails where they were allowed to stand and protest. The problem was when a small group grew into a riot and trespassed into the building. Everyone would agree that small group of people went from a legal protest to a now illegal protest.

Wait so did all the vandalism, cops killed, and destruction of the White House happened much later when the protest grew?
