In addition, this isn't only Trump's responsibility.
Going on TV talking about bleach and de-wormers WAS his responsibility. As well as denying how serious it could be.

I am once again coming to you to say attack the position, not the person. Keep in mind you are trying to address the issues, and you have a right to your own opinion but not a right to your own facts. Personal attacks will receive a [snip], or the entire post will be deleted. Eventually, you will receive warnings.

So. Deep breath. you're trying to convince other folks who are reading the back and forth, not necessarily the person you're talking with. Define terms, cite where you can, and be polite and avoid strawmen.

No personal attacks, please.
And i appreciate that, except that the usual suspects keep doing personal attacks with the precise purpose to rile people up, not just easily irritable ones like me. They succeed and instead of punishing them more for starting it, Moderation (when it happens, usually very late) deleted entire conversations including post whose only objectionable content are quotes with offensive terms.

Also, I really appreciate the point about not being entitled to facts, so maybe you should consider warnings or more for deliberate misinformation spreading. Like saying that nazis were "socialists".

Covid has been extremely badly taken care everywhere.

The illness was known since three months before the first cases erupted in China, and six months before they erupted outside of it, but very few countries have taken the appropriate measures to deal with it. And as a result, millions have died everywhere around the world.

In addition, this isn't only Trump's responsibility. Health care services all around USA responded badly to the virus, many people just didn't care about doing what was need to reduce its progression, and while he could have answered better, the blow wouldn't have been reduced that much, and those who were on the field are just as gulity as him for that.

So yeah, I stand by my words.
So your argument against the President of the United States being responsible for the United States response to the pandemic is:

1) other countries did badly, causing millions of deaths. (but the USA's response doesn't count for this bit, presumably)

2) Health authorities in the US responded badly for the virus (independently of Trump, who as President was helpless to address that)

3) Many people didn't care about stopping it (independently of Trump telling them that everything is fine)

4) he could have done better (but it's still not his fault for not doing so)

5) other people

I had to guess at some of the gaps in the logic to make it fit together, but I'm not convinced. He could have done a lot better by just, not speaking. “If we didn’t do testing, we’d have no cases.”

I've been watching this thread and honestly, both sides started attacking the person not the idea, so moderation goes both ways.
For everyone here, do you like your country? Do you like your city? Then just take a walk and admire the streets, the people and life in general. Be happy you can live in the present and forget about politics. For one day, try to enjoy life without any care. Just touch grass, or sand and remember: it's just some random person on the internet, so what, just let it go and just enjoy some games :)

Maybe you should pay closer attention. Have you even read the other thread you posted in?

These people make claims, ignore followups by making more claims mixed with some insults, and then stop engaging at all when you cut to the chase.

Here's two examples.

User: Hanafuda
I cite the DSM-V in response to "gender identity disorder is a disorder" - ignores the point, calls all of medicine biased, but then says "open to medical opinions" - that argument can literally not be invalidated.
I dumped a bunch of studies on the trans people on the empiricism claim (most from before 2015 too) - dude fucks off.

User: BeniBel
I cite a court's opinion that Trump can reasonably called a rapist, dude pivots into "but not legally", forgetting that was not his claim.
I call that out and cite the definiton of a legal opinion - dude fucks off.

It's an exhaustion strategy and I'm fucking tired of you idiots not seeing it. Yes, that includes you, GBATemp staff. Fuck. You. Find. The. Ban. Button.

I can believe it happening accidentally, as here where you can see she was gesturing with a pointed finger just a few seconds before she opens her hand. That's not how you do the salute. I think it makes little sense that she would be trying to sneak a subtle signal in to Nazis, who from what I understand are not fond of her.

I can also believe it happening deliberately, such as from someone doing it much more directly, twice in a row, who has previously repeated Nazi and far-right rhetoric. There being two possibilities does not prevent me from drawing conclusions on which is more likely.
Let's have them go from start to finish and see if they are the same.

Yeah, both are not the same. Their video literally skips to the moment where her hand is up and palm out already like the pictures, trying to make it seem she's doing it. This is creating a false narrative purposefully.

But hey, people want to think Musk isn't doing the salute? How about you do it in public? See how far you go. Go into a crowd and try it out.

I know but it's not like you can change someone's opinion, almost never. That's why it's better to just let go ans accept that people have opinions that can't be changed. That's why I said to just think of just a stranger online that you most likely never meet. So at the end of the day it just gets you angry unnecessarily.

My opinion though is that banning opinions you don't like is not the solution. Peoplen can just make another account so you get nowhere there. That is why I said to just try living a day without thinking about it. Or do what you want, at the end of the day I'm also just a weird stranger on the net

I for one, have ample reason to resent Trump. He and his last administration personally tripled my student loan payments across his first set of four years, and thanking everything now in retrospect that I signed up for the public service loan program before he could sabotage that, too.

I also won't forgive him for his mishandling of the hurricane that decimated Puerto Rico. I didn't even know if my extended family out there was ALIVE let alone made it through until my following birthday, over social media, because that racist clown treated the island like it was some foreign entity. Looking back, I almost wish it was... if for no other reason than it'd have gotten aid faster than it did because of his racist myopic world view.

Guy has thirty four felonies and is getting to run the country? I've been fired from jobs in the past for WAY less. I'm beyond offended and ashamed of him, and the people that voted for him.

You know it's going to happen. A rule of etiquette in business, family and friends at the dinner table, and elsewhere is never talk about religion or politics. Do you really think it'll be any different here?

A big issue with your two examples is that it's not the first time this played out with those two users in particular either. And it'll likely happen again because there's no repercussion for posting false information or bigotry short of an outright ban. If they want to go through the trouble of making a new account well that's on them.

This is simply false. If it was "bad everywhere" the death rate in the US would have been proportional to our population, meaning 4% and not 24%

Don't forget gems like "It's the Dems new hoax" "Inject bleach" "It'll go away like an Easter miracle"
Me and you went back and forth over this about 20 times months ago about the "inject bleach" bullshit. And you're STILL peddling this nonsense that he never said. It's why nobody can take you people seriously. You lie and lie and lie and lie again. Leeme guess "very nice people" amirite?

This is the same level of denialism that flat earthers have which renders discussion pointless. There's no reasoning against this when you have video evidence.

My opinion though is that banning opinions you don't like is not the solution.
It's a solution to keep the forums civil. If you let the intolerant in, other people will automatically leave. Either you make that choice, or the choice is made for you. And for fucks sake, it's a gaming forum, not a debate club. And at least a debate club would have guardrails to keep discussions civil, cause everyone there knows all the cheap tricks in the playbook.

People can just make another account so you get nowhere there.
You can invalidate any moderation policy with that argument.

But in the end, people care about their accounts, their post history, their recognizable identity. I don't think these people would be here long if only someone made clear they're not welcome here.

Then again, I am provoking the shit out of the mods right now and they can't even ban me for a day. What do I need to do, link some NSPs?

That is why I said to just try living a day without thinking about it. Or do what you want, at the end of the day I'm also just a weird stranger on the net
Some people don't get a choice in if they get to think about politics or not. I happen to be conscripted to the front of the culture war because it's spearheaded by attacks on people like me. It'd be nice if an online forum about video games was a refuge from that.
