Hello,

I had to replace a few parts of my old 3ds, which I had for years
While doing this, a few bad things happened, like me breaking the flat cable of my top screen and messing up the connectors of my bottom screen.
I bought new of those and when I connected everything again, it doesn't boot, the red power led doesn't even light up with only the battery connected

Then, as a troubleshoot step, I disconnected absolutely everything from the motherboard and when I connect it to the power source, the red power led stays on for about 4 seconds then it turns off. It doesn't boot if I try to press the power button during that time.

My question is:
Is this a clear sign that the motherboard is dead or it doesn't turn on anyway if everything is not connected? I was expecting to at least see the leds confirming that it is working, and maybe see something when I connect the bottom screen.

your system will not boot unless you have everything connected
That is not true.
Some pieces can be omitted without stopping a 3DS from starting. Cameras for example aren't strictly needed. I didn't try but I believe gamecart and SD readers aren't strictly necessary.

Backlights and the speaker/3D cable must be present as well as the WiFi board on old type consoles.

🤓 going over exactly what you have to and don't have to connect isn't going to help the OP

Wow easy guys lol
I gave up on it actually, my sd card got corrupted on top of everything that was going on so I lost my data already... The only thing I cared about the most is my playtime but I have a backup of the PlayHistory.dat
A bit outdated but it will be hard to know if I messed some component like a screen or something else to try to get the motherboard running again and get an updated file from the nand.
And I've been wanting to buy a new 3ds anyway...
Thanks for the info

Yes it does. :) Knowing what can be omitted and what not is important when troubleshooting especially since it is also known that malfunctioning components (camera) can cause issues - while disconnecting them isn't a problem.

I just always try my best to help people. :) Since forum threads can be found years later it is better to provide as much information as possible rather than oversimplified things like "have to connect everything" :)

DS consoles are finicky and easy to damage. I only touch the inner parts when strictly needed. If you are brave and willing to lose another one you could simply install the motherboard into a known good console (a risk I wouldn't be willing to take after having successfully replaced two upper screens)

Good luck and have fun!

Sadly, braveness needs money hahaha
But thanks for the help :>
