From what I've seen, this is a Modern Tetris game for the Gameboy (Color). The gameplay in Modern Tetris is noticeably different from Classic Tetris.
The most noticeable differences are:
  • Hold piece feature
  • Hard drop by pressing Up on the D-pad
  • Pieces not immediately locking in after touching the ground
  • Item-bag based random generation for next pieces
  • Slightly different physics and rules in general.
The possibility of creating a modern version of Tetris for old systems like the Gameboy has been an idea I've had for many years now, since there's no reason for it to be impossible. It seems like no one had done this until now. Unless someone did, but didn't get much attention for it, then feel free and please do inform and correct me.
I believe Tetris Rosy Retrospection and it's DX counterpart romhacks are pretty much that.
You're like a week late buddy. I was on top of it as soon as it dropped.

And Palmer Luckey was mad, lol.
Based. But also looks like Luckey is big mad now and is taking it down from everywhere.

And Palmer Luckey is mad because he doesn't like video game preservation after Tetris had been dumped, he began to whine on Facebook about how it's destroying creativity which is total bullshit. What people don't know after giving money to ModRetro, is that he has donated to the Republican Party and raised $10,000 for a group called "Nimble America" to support Trump.

This is straight up evil behavior from a founder of a company.
I was gonna go seek it down, for the bit / out of spite ("it's always morally correct to pirate Chromatic Tetris") but he's really going after it apparently, hot damn. Sounds like a petty, bitter little dude to me

Being hostile and confrontational is never the move in a hobby like this considering none of this would be possible if it weren't for hobbyist modders, hackers, and yes, pirates. Entirely hypocritical when the product being sold is fundamentally just a bougie replica of another company's work.

If they've taken down the Archive.org copy, that's something I've not even seen Nintendo do for their ROMs, as of now at least.

I won't be surprised if this will just get spread around now out of spite ala Streisand Effect, look around and you'll probably find a copy.

People complain about Nintendo, but even with their occasional takedowns, their stuff is very easy to find.

Quick, someone post Chromatic Tetris with the name and thumbnail of Nintendo's Tetris, so Matt Gaetz's brother-in-law doesn't find out

Made some custom boxart for Tetris Chromatic

what's the DX equivalent of rosy retrospection? is it just rosy retrospection DX?

-----------------

also this isn't the political subforum please keep this discussion away for the sake of the people who either don't live in the US or don't want to see politics in a gaming forum

For the love of god, this isn't the politics section of the forum. I was fearing it would eventually happen.

Just, look up Palmer ModRetro Chromatic or something using a search engine. You'll find an article about him touching this whole subject, and after reading it I know you'll make your mind.

This place is for videogames, consoles... and while I understand everything is political, this isn't the place to touch politics as a subject. One thing is bringing up a disclaimer of sorts, and other thing is to start discussing it.

makho treated this whole thing leaving aside the Palmer stuff, and goddamn it was relieving. I could actually see someone informed showing the product and the less than happy state it is in right now.

I wouldn't buy the profuct even if I had that disposable income. The screen having 'color correction' looks like a marketing joke, nothing makes it clearly closer to a stock GBC screen in terms of colorspace.

FPGA hardware emulation cores aren't exactly the most accurate out of the cores and all software emus available. And misterFPGA's, Analog Pocket and ModRetro's are no exception to not being the most accurate ways of emulating these consoles.

The D-Pad, allowing you to easily do illegal inputs sounds like a critical thing if you wanna play GB/GBC games in peace, since they were coded *not to* support illegal inputs, generating unfortunate consequences sometimes.

Nobody needs to hear all the political bullshit since nobody will change its mind from reading it here, and if someone may then go to the politics section instead. Don't ruin this place.

THOSE ARE AMAZING!!!!!

Yep, that's exactly it.

Regular GB version of Tetris Rosy Retrospection: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5813/
Updated GBC version of Tetris Rosy Retrospection DX: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8259/
I downloaded a newer version of the DX one that's now 64KB in size, but I couldn't find a change log of what got added or improved. And I wish we could disable the annoying ghost piece, it's so distracting.

That's already been fixed in the latest firmware update that was just released this week.

Pretty shitty for companies trying to sell stupidly overpriced products to retro-fans trying to take advantage out of it.

This makes me remember Sunny and their stupid PS-Mini with their cheap/crap USB gamepad, doing copy-cat business once again after Nintendo offered and sold out the NES/SNES Mini consoles.

While I don't endorse piracy, I also don't endorse greedy companies, so funk them.

The game is good, but that's it, nothing out of this world for the bundle overprice.

That's a hardware defect, or intentional hardware 'feature'. Dunno how they're handling it in software, but hopefully in a perfect way for the people that already own one. It sounds very difficult for the console to predict which buttons you're actually trying to press, when you're already pressing three or four buttons at the same time.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. It's an FPGA and problems like that are *easily* fixed in firmware updates.
Please educate yourself and read up on how FPGA-based systems like the Chromatic, Analogue Pocket, and FPGBC actually work.

You can't fully fix a hardware problem in software/FPGA bitstream. What they do is essentially just a workaround. When invalid inputs are registered it pretends 1 or 2 of these buttons are not pressed when they actually are. How they decide which buttons should go through to the game i have no idea. But it will likely not always be the ones you wanted the game to register.

Okay then what would you create? Let's hear your ideas how to create a dedicated hardware clone of the Game Boy Color that costs less money. Considering the screen is a non-standard resolution, and the cartridge slot has to be able to accept the proprietary design of Nintendo's Game Paks.

You're making it sound more complicated than it is, considering most if not all information regarding the console is already public, hardware and software information is available if you search in the correct places. When you make a single one that works, its just "copy & paste" in some sense.

Its a similar situation with game devs, even though they do most of the job they don't get all the profit, but share most of it with people that was never involved on the development or design. That's the main reason many indie devs prefer to work by themselves and so many "aaa" dev studios have dissapeared over the years, the greed of big companies buying them and making crap games in record time ruins the process, it's all about profit for them.

Engineers make it work, but they don't get most of the profit, but people that take advantage of the so-called "classic nostalgia" of players, and my criticism its for them and their greed.
