Hello all,

My lovely dog managed to send my CFW (Atmosphere) V1 Switch flying after running into the table it was sitting on last night 🙄

It still boots now, but it crashes every few minutes. It has been updated to the latest Atmosphere / Hekate / sigpatches and the caches cleared as a precaution, but the crashes persist.

I’m really hoping that the problem lies with the SD card being damaged somehow and not the machine itself as that’s way harder to fix lol.

I’ve attached a few photos of the errors it’s throwing (and the damaged fan cover, though the fan itself seems undamaged thank god) just in case anyone recognises them and has some advice for me or can confirm that the card needs replacing before I sink the cash on it.

If anyone knows whether an SD format might fix it, I’d love to hear from them! It’s a 1TB card which is why I’m cautious about buying a new one / doing a huge format until I’ve got a better idea of the situation from others who might have more experience with these errors.

I’ll add more screenshots as I can get them.

Thank you ☺️

Did you forget to update your Switch to the latest firmware version? Dogs will always try to update CFW Switch consoles given the chance.
I’m currently on 18.1.0, Atmosphere 1.8.0.

I haven’t updated in forever and I figured it was the knock to the floor that wrecked something as it was fine before that lol.

I’ll run the update now though, I’ll be very happy to be wrong!

Thanks, I’ll check back in a minute once it’s done and tested.

I’ve also been looking at the ifixit for a damaged SD card reader just in case that could be a culprit

… Welp, I don’t know why in the hell my Switch was more upset about an update than it was about the hardwood floor it ate, but it hasn’t crashed yet and I’ve launched 2 Switch games and an emulator.

I’m so relieved to be wrong 😮‍💨

Thank you so much for saving my dumb ass, you’re a real one 👍

Damn, just had my first crash. Absolutely ages between this and the last one though, so that’s great. I’m wondering if maybe something is cooked with mGBA? That seems to be choking every now and then and causing crashes. Interesting

Getting this message at times now. I’m guessing either the card or the card reader is boinked then 😥

Try to disassemble the console and reconnect the sd card reader. The connector is held in place by a piece of foam, might be loose and having contact issues

I’m a bit nervous as I’ve never opened a Switch before, but I’m willing to try! Thank you for the suggestion. Is it tough to reseat the connector?

It's pretty easy, just take the back plastic cover off and you'll have access to the sd card reader connector, Don't even need to remove the metal shield. Pull on the black foam tape and it should come right off. Remove the foam tape from the connector, align the connector and reconnect it, finally tape it down. Hope that solves the problem otherwise you may need a new sd card reader, or even have BGA issues with the soc.

Also before you do anything just eject and reinsert the sd card, the drop might knocked the sd card out of the slot.

Thank you so much, it’s very kind of you to take the time to give written instructions ☺️ I’ll do my best to get my courage up and take a look at it!

Before you start messing with the sd card. Just take the sd card out an boot into your stock firmware. If your switch crashes on stock firmware with no sd card, you can rule out the sd card and put it down to a hardware error.

I’ve booted it stock but had the SD card in at the time. I’ll definitely try without it though and see whether it crashes after enough time. Thank you for the suggestion ☺️

If you're lucky it could be as simple as the SD card reader is LOOSE. Happened me like last week. I had to just click it back on.

But it's possible that some of the pins have been ripped out. They're very sensitive to breaking. Open it up (you need a special tri wing screwdriver which is annoying) and just press it gently into place and make sure the connector is flat and in place.. If that doesn't work and it still crashes then gently release it and try looking at the connector end and the pin connector under a magnifying glass to see if all the pins are in place

I’m praying it’s only loose and nothing worse! The fall wasn’t even from very high, just off a small side table. My dogs were playing and one of them skidded right into it. Thank you, I’ll try this out when I’m off work
