Hackers release playable PC builds of Pokémon Legends Arceus and more following Game Freak gigaleak

We recently reported that Game Freak suffered a security breach which led to a huge amount of confidential data being leaked such as game source codes and internal design documents.

During the cyber attack, the hackers also obtained native PC builds of Pokémon Legends Arceus as well as builds of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl.

Now these official PC versions of the games have been cracked and are available to find online meaning they can be played on PC without the need for emulation though it seems compatibility may be an isuse with specific Nvidia cards and drivers being required.

The builds of Pokémon BDSP appear to be close to final debug builds, and Pokémon Legends Arceus is an early prototype build. These PC editions, made during internal testing and development of the games were most likely never intended to be publically released on PC and their releases are sure to further infuriate Nintendo and Game Freak who have already seen so much data leak.

How much of the final game is present in the Legends Arceus prototype? Is the whole game present or is a good chunk of it missing? And for those who have tried, does the leaked PC build of Legends Arceus run any better than the official Switch release (on real hardware, not an emulator with any enhancements), or does it run about the same?

I’ve been meaning to play Legends Arceus and I’m just wondering if I should stick with playing the Switch version or this new PC one.

This is an old prototype from when the Switch version was in production, not a new PC port. The full game is no there and I doubt it runs any better.

Either way, stick with buying games honestly instead of pirating them.

No worries.

Game Freak did make some good games before Pokémon. The most notable example is the Yoshi puzzle game on the NES.
A build of Yoshi for DS called "Super Yoshi's Egg" (Suupaa Yosshi no Tamago) was found in the BW repo. And Jill's voice (from Drill Dozer) is used as a placeholder voice for Mario. Speculated to be used as a test for transferring programs to a DS via Download Play.

Okay now this has my attention. Wonder how many other games they’ve had running on PC.

Found the ninja.

If this is true : https://x.com/CentroLeaks/status/1846951578722328771

Then I don't know how it didn't happen sooner.
I mean, we knew that GameFreak were just blatantly incompetent when it comes to making functional games, but idk why I didn't even expect something like that to ever happen ... I don't think we realize the sheer amount of pure incompetence that runs rampant is so many companies. You would think that they would keep their secrets locked behind at least decent security.
But a chmod 777 ? One of the first rules you learn when studying IT is giving the smallest privilege required, and nothing requires full access.

Even when building a home lab or building ephemeral stuff on my VPS, I cringe and can't feel satisfied when using root or 777. And they're using that on their servers ?????? That's just crazy

Idk, sometimes I struggle a bit with impostor syndrome, feeling like I must absolutely master things in order to feel at least competent and confident about what I'm doing, would probably be so much worse if it involved such important data. But after that, and even the crowdstrike incident for that matter .... makes me think that some people should feel that syndrome and maybe revise their stuff before working again.
fuck centro

For them it's probably cheaper to hire ninja's to go after everyone ,than have proper IT or personel do the job

What about non-Pokémon games? Is there something for, let's say, Drill Dozer or Pulseman (yes, the one in my profile picture)?
Drill Dozer got a lot of promo material and I think some beta builds, I haven’t heard of anything Pulseman though.

Maybe when Nintendo stops harassing my emulators. If buying isn’t owning then piracy isn’t stealing, and this is even more true when I am restricted in legal choices by a multi-billion dollar corporation who’s trying to eek out the few remaining cents from supposed piracy losses.

oh i'm fucking loving the ramifications from taking down RYU keep them fucking coming!
Keep telling yourself these leaks have anything to do with an emulator lol

But to be on the actual topic.... Is anyone actually surprised? EVERY game nowadays has a PC version that's internally used when developing a game, Fromsoft had one when making Bloodborne and there was some screenshots and video of it in behind the scenes material, Insomniac's Spider Man 2 had one that got leaked when someone at the company lowered thier guard and clicked on a funny Tor link, and there's a handful of other major games that were made for console that had a PC version used for making the game.

These are the kind of people Nintendo won't hold back on. MInor things the worst they will do is a takedown. This is a take you to court and make an example of you kind of action. Not smart.
