Hi.

I'm looking at an R4 card to buy for my DSi XL that I bought and I'm not sure what the difference is between them.

Just want it to play DS games and maybe GBA too, if possible.

Thanks.

Edit: Or the R4 3DS cart?

If you want to play GBA games on your DSi XL use GBARunner3 with TwilightMenu++. You'll want to run it in DSi mode so run it with a dsiwarehax exploit or (preferably and easily) Unlaunch.

Either use Stylehax or the preferred Memory Pit exploit to install Unlaunch CFW.

Rather than an R4 card, I could just install CFW? I looked up the website and seems fairly simple.

And if I'd one day later wanted to format and get rid of the CFW, a format factory would clean that up?

Removing Unlaunch will require launching the installer again, note that removing Unlaunch, there is a small chance it could brick. If you have a backup of your NAND, then you can easily recover by soldering some wires from the motherboard to an SD card adapter.

You could just set Unlaunch to autoboot the "Launcher" title and you'd never be able to tell it's installed. Just hold a+b on boot to get back into the Unlaunch menu.
