so i saw a video that claimed that retroarch has a Text to speech function, that video was from 2019.

what happened to that feature a d is it available on switch?

OK, I know king-fu! (RetroArch AI)

I have set up RetroArch to use both the ztranslate service as well as the Google translate api.

It does language translation and responds in either speech or image (not sure what narration mode is.)

Here it is translating Final Fantasy IV (Japanese) via image mode.

I have installed VGTranlate on my Raspberry Pi (a bit messy because VGT is written in Python 2.7) so if anyone needs a walkthrough on getting it set up, let me know!

Will have VGTranslate offload the translation calls to either z translate or Google To speed things up a little.

This is a pretty cool tool. Thanks for the brain worm!

so do i need a google api account or what ever it is called? (as i understand it its only free for a certain amount of text lines?) or did that change by now?

You can use the ztranslate.net version for free. Very straightforward to use and I was thinking of just using it but really wanted to get the google one working due to pride.

I reached out to the Dev on Discord and walked into what I was missing (see graphic below for what you need to enable). Good guy btw.

The google one is supposedly marginally faster and has a very high limit of free use. I'm still not being charged a single cent.

The ztranslate.net version is just as fast and accurate so with all things being equal, I'd probably recommend the author's version.

Here are the three APIs you need to enable to get Google working.

Do you need your PC acts as a server?
You can if you want to but PC server is not required. ztranslate.net config can bed one directly inside RetroArch using the same (free) account information.

Dev says the small performance boost of offloading to server is almost negligible in ztranslate config and the only real perf boost is marginal w/ offload to server Google config.
