Tips for a flutist?

I've been playing flute for a few years now, but ever since I went to high school and started playing higher notes, the quality of my sound fell. My band director said that I wasn't chosen for wind ensemble because of the quality of my sound -- it's way too airy.

I figured that the way to fix this was to work on getting the hole the air comes out of smaller, but that hasn't gone too well for me so far -- the sound just get more airy.

Anyone have any tips?

Well. All the cool cats say Flautist. All you can really do about your sound is making sure your air is used as efficiently as possible. Make the hole you're blowing air out of smaller. Also just general tips would be to keep your fingers close to the keys, otherwise there's lots of wasted energy and loss of speed while changing notes. Make sure to keep a nice posture and don't let the end of your flute sag, keep it nice and level. Practice. That is all.
