Thoughts on the Australian Bushfire(wildfire) Crisis and Climate Change

First of all, I'll try to keep this non-political

As I'm sure a lot of you are aware, Australia is on fire, 10-11 years ago, the bushfires or one of the worst ones (Black Saturday) of the season was quoted to be "the raging fires of hell.' which introduced a new level of fire danger rating in Australia - Catastrophic
This current bushfire season is a lot worse than the aforementioned one of Black Saturday. So far, the area burnt is over 6,300,000 hectares (16,000,000 acres; 63,000 km2; 24,000 sq mi), with over 2,500 buildings destroyed and 24 fatalities and half a billion animal lives lost. (wikipedia)

These fires are larger than what the Californian or Amazon fires were.

These bushfires(Wildfires) are unprecedented and on a scale worse than ever before. People are getting sick from the air pollution from the smoke, buildings have shut from the smoke triggering alarms, people have been seeking shelter on our beaches, thousands have been evacuated. NSW has declared a state of Emergency.

and for some reason, our government cut funding to the firefighters earlier last year.

Bushfires have always been a part of Australian history and will be to come, but there are a few different reasons why they are getting worse.
1) Controlled Burning - this method was even used by the First Australians to help control the bushfires, by reducing the fuel there was to burn, however, this seems to have been reduced
2) Drought - Not much we can do about this one, however, we can help in with point 3
3) Climate Change - Australians can help reduce our carbon footprint, however, the government doesn't want to do this or even talk about it at this very moment and would rather approve/building a new coal mine (again the government's decision - see Adaini) or go on holidays to Hawaii

So whilst climate change does play a part in these worsening fires, it's not the sole cause.

EDIT: A CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) report in 2009 stated:
A modelling study conducted by the Bushfire CRC, the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO (Lucas et al. 2007) found that the simulated annual-average number of days with ‘Extreme’ fire danger increases by 5-25% by 2020 relative to 1990, for a low rate of global warming. For a high rate of global warming, the number of ‘Extreme’ days increases by 15-65% by 2020
The report can be found linked below with the quote on page 20, under section 5.4 - Potential changes in future fire weather risk.

Here we go again.. Argument about climate change. A climate change is the cause by mankind, that it. No argument from me on this page anymore.

@azoreseuropa Just my thoughts on it and the effect it has on the bushfires here and I quote
So whilst climate change does play a part in these worsening fires, it's not the sole cause.

Man... can't help but think in all those poor animals that burned in the wildfire.
I hate this.
Animals doesn't has to suffer man's actions.
First California, then the Amazon and now Australia.

On a second thought... usually wildfires creates enough nutrients and minerals to regrow more vegetation. So if people commits to it, they could re-grow the entirety of the affected area.

It just sucks to learn that the australian government has cut all the fundings to firemen.
It's the same here in my country. Firemen lives through donations. They do not have a payday and all of them are entirely volunteers.

Here in my country we do have wildfires, but not as big or traumatic as those in other countries. Our firemen are well trained and people seems to be conscious about their actions in natural areas which are by the way protected and totally alienated to the general public... most of the times.

Just this past January the 1st, the Mexican Government has prohibited all plastic bags in all small commerces, so, if you go, just to say, to buy a kilo of lemons, or tomatos, you better leave home with your own bags to carry your groceries. That's good. And with all honesty, bringing my own bags is something I've done since forever.
I only use plastic bags to separate my organic and inorganic trash.

Something I'm very upset right now is... what's my government doing to stop companies like Coca-Cola, Sabritas, Bimbo, Walmart, etc. to stop using plastic just like it's prohibited to society? Absolutely nothing.

It's something that should've been done a long time ago. Not now that things are pretty much irreversible in my honest opinion.
But at least I have absolutely no guilt in this crazy climate change.
I do not waste paper, water, I do not pollute, I do separate my trash I do recycle and reuse as much as I can and I do not consume more than what's need to consume.

Hate this, but the truth is that there's nothing we can do about (as consumming society) compared to all the dammage that companies and governments has done to this planet.

I’ll admit, a lot of my posts are unimportant and vapid but I know that this will be the most important thing I ask you all this year.
People in Australia are dying, animals are dying, our eco systems are dying. Our planet is in crisis!!! And Australia needs our help.
When the Notre Dame burned in April last year over £650 million was pledged within 24 hours for the reconstruction of a church building. An area the size of Belgium is currently on fire in south east Australia, scores of peoples have lost their lives, hundreds have lost their homes and property, firefighters are collapsing through exhaustion and over 500 million animals have perished. Where is our global outcry?! Where is our support for Australia? Where are the funds for our delicate eco systems? The human race need to sort our priorities out.
I’ve spent all morning reading the articles, crying, reaching out to my Australian friends and checking everyone is ok, I’m just worrying and working out the best ways to help in anyway I can! I’ve worked out that there’s so many amazing charities doing what they can to help. Here are a few of them: - wireswildliferescue - foodbanknswact - foodbankaus - nswrfs (the fire service) - redcrossau
I’ve personally donated to wireswildliferescue and can reassure you all that they’re accepting international donations and that it took me less than 5 mins to donate
Please, this is only going to get worse. Aussies are strong, but they can’t do this alone- Let’s show Australia that we care

That's an entirely different situation.

You can't help people being nice because their religion tells them that it's the right thing to do.
Religious people are nice because they're afraid to commit a sin... not because they're truly nice people.

how serius is this fire compared to the many that happens every year? is it normal that buildings get destroyed each year?

@matthi321 they are bigger and worse than 10 years ago. There haven't been as many human lives lost so far because we were a bit more prepared but damage wise it's worse
