I'm at a weird stage in my life. For the first time in my memory, I feel legitimately content with my life.
When I was younger, although I would never have admitted it, I was very awkward, as I'm sure all of you are. I was socially awkward in that I was nervous, never had anything to say, despite wanting to say something, and the only thing that I could think to say was essentially bragging. (My theory, this being a common occurrence, was that parents tend to ignore their children with just "uh huh..."s, and only truly respond when an accomplishment is achieved). In addition, as I've talked with GeoFLCL about, I feel that many teenagers, my previous self included, make themselves unhappy, in order to feel the need to rebel, which feels good temporarily, but comes off as simply selfish, and ultimately just results into your own unhappiness.
I grew out of it. Along with it, I grew out of my parents, in the form of them (my mom, anyway, my dad's been dead for a few years) booting me on my ass. While I felt much more confident, I was also unhappy, and admittedly complained a lot.
And here's where today comes in. I feel like my sense of entitlement has been rightfully shattered. Just because the Joneses get time off, a ton of money, and a family, doesn't mean I have to have one. No one ever promised me that I'd have at least one day off per week - my employer surely didn't, I can't have the Abrahamic god speak for me, no one. Except me. And I shouldn't make promises that I can't keep.
With regards to that, I feel that a good example comes with my final exam for my Chem 101 course. I'm not doing so hot in that class. I really need all the help that I can get. The exam is take-home. I could cheat all that I want. But, I am required to sign my name on the front, certifying that I did not cheat, or receive any help from an outside resource. Of course, I signed it. A signature means a lot, and I won't have mine being sullied.
tl;dr: Monkat grew up.
Off-topic: Cuz of cataclysm, I've reopened an old WoW account. If anyone wants to see me, I'm monkat on tanaris. Alliance.
