Rumor: Nokia E90 to be the final Communicator of its kind

THIS IS A NOKIA E90 COMMUNICATOR TOPIC AND NO USELESS POSTS PLEASE. POST YOUR OWN TOPIC ABOUT OTHER PHONES.

I heard that the Nokia E90 will be the final Communicator of Nokia. That said, Nokia is now focusing on touch-based device such as the Nokia X6 and the Nokia N900 Tablet.

Many had debated that the Nokia N900 is a Communicator but let me tell you this is that it's a Tablet no matter how you looked at it.

The Nokia E90 Communicator was released last 2007 after the 2004 model, Nokia 9300, and the Nokia 9500 Communicator. The Nokia 9210 was released 4 years before the Nokia 9500.

The gap is 3 years after the Nokia 9300 but we cannot be sure if we will see another communicator on 2010.

Nokia 9210i was released 2 years after 9210. Nokia 9300i was released 1 year after 9300. It's been 2 years and there are no signs of a new communicator.

What do you think? Is this goodbye for the Communicator series? If ever Nokia made a new Communicator, what will be the features? thinner than E90? 5 MP Camera? Let's hope so.

Nokia fans, lend me your voice.

Well it doesnt look too good for more communicators.. But then again, I dont care because I dont use Communicators :P

I am a nokia fan due to one reason alone... the symbian based OS.

Well i never really got into the communicator series, but lets face it, there isn't any demand on these phones as much as there used to be. People are so hyped up about there touch screen 5 megapixel phones, which are just lame. The communicator was a tough phone, and i wish that nokia would actually make a new one.

things i would like to see, well just a shrink in size. I couldn't care less about the other things really.

well the communicator phones are excellent due to their spacy keyboard and their widescreen display(perfect for text), but most business people rather use blackberrys, windows mobile, e71 or now even iphones...

I just overheard these things so Im not sure. Oct. 2009 is too early to judge. Many phones has been announced lately and were due before January 2010. But the looks of the current situation is that we're havong more and more touch-based devices and the new Maemo-based tablet Nokia N900 will be the mascot of Nokia.

Sure the Nokia E90 (and all the previous models) were the big ones not until the Nokia N series began to over take the position.

The Nokia 9xxx series are no more thus replaced by the E series.

The problem with the Communicator series are their prices. I must admit that they're expensive but I do mananged to get the latest model.

I love the Communicator series because of it's a mini laptop. It's my dream phone since it first released - 9210.

I also admit that people from the west preffer Blackberry and Windows Mobile (and Palm) but people in the east sometimes doesnt have one of those. Look at my country, for example. Indonesia is a big fan of the Communicator series thus making them the first ones to hold the latest E90.

It's a little debate over here so I would thought what's your opinion about this.

I would like to email Nokia by using someone and see if they're still planning to make one.

uhm..I work at the Nokia Store? Of course, it's my job! Im also a product analyst so I must know what's the trend.

Maybe next time, I'll apply in Sony Ericsson just for the laughs.

please don't do this...their phones are just for style...

I got 3 SE phones to test and I was disappointed at the OS. The SPACE bar while texting is rather akward when Im used tNokia's SPACEBAR 0 button compare to the * button.

Im trying to apply at Samsung while I can.

I also saw a Communicator of LG, perhaps. It has a smaller screen with speakers on its side and same as the Nokia COmmunicators. I think it's motorola. Im a guy so I need comfy buttons not small ones like the ones found on Nokia E series or the Blackberry ones. The Nokia E90 has comfortable QWERTY keyboard as it's small yet large enough for my hands.

My hand is 7" in length. my fingertip (pointer) is 0.6" so so typing on the E90 is easy.

UPDATE:
LG E910 is what im talking about. Is this their first communicator and perhaps the last? KT610 is also in the list

You should work at HTC. :3

I had a Communicator a while back, the 9500. I guess we just didn't click. I thought I could use it as a PMP and to surf the web, but it turned out the native mp3 player functionality was teh suck, all the videos I had had to be converted to "friendlier" formats, and the OS didn't support the "WEP key is provided for me automatically" setting required by the network at my college, which is exactly where I was planning on doing it. And when I did manage to hook onto some hotspot, surfing itself was an arduous process. The transfer speed was greater than the capacity of the phone itself to display a website.

That's not to say it wasn't an excellent phone. I love the keyboard, and the huge (for that time) screen, the build quality, the klicky keys of the external keyboard, the phone really was amazing. I understand why it has a devout following. It's just that due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, it didn't quite match the fairly particular uses I had in mind for it.

But it did teach me one thing, though. Patience. Using that phone was pure meditation. A sort of Zen. It was that slow. Anything took hours to load. You were simply forced to relax. Haste and anger would get you nowhere. And waiting for something to actually load on that phone was the equivalent of taking a deep breath and counting to ten. It gave you time to settle your thoughts. Amazing, really. I'm much happier with all my electronic devices after accepting the Tao of Communicator.

The Communicator series are great phones, and it would be a shame if Nokia dropped the concept.

Communicator cell phones are great for business. Nokia wants touch-based cell phone devices rather than button based. The iPhone is the best cell phone communicator than Nokia's and others.

BINGO!! That's what they were talking about, my colleagues. It's a shame Nokia is focusing on Touch-based ones.

Like I said, October is too early to judge and the prevoius gap was 4 years and it's just 2 years after release. But looking at the current situation, the N900 is the Ultimate Communicator/Tablet/Phone/Multimedia. It's Maemo!! A little PC OS on a Phone.

Though, if we can gather enough reasons, surely, Nokia (and perhaps other mobile phones) will have to re-consider things.

I must admit that my E90 is slow but I would love to see some improvements. SRSLY, 3.2 MP has slower response into the E90's CPU. Gosh, that was awful

EDIT: Wait! there was the N810 Tablet. and at that time, the E90 was released. Hmmmm...

I'll hack the Nokia database for other proto-types aside from the N99 phone (not china phone)

well can you even use the n900 as phone? it has umts w/ hsdpa, but I see no normal GSM module in there...

the N810 had no broadband (umts/gsm) connection, if I remember right

Sad to say that even GSMarena has predicted that the COMMUNICATOR series has reach their limits. It'll go down like the rest of the phones (flips for example)
