Hello all, what a month hey? Steam Summer Sales, E3, graduations, death, its been a month...
so lets start off on a good leg, the wife this month graduated from her college in liberal arts with honors, I am really proud of her.She is now enjoying the summer before she begins university which she will hopefully tie off within a couple of years and be ready for the job market.
So E3, it seemed like a good show all around for most, the big 3 seemed to each have some really cool looking stuff. The BC compatibility for the Xbone I thought was a great touch, actually made me consider getting a Xbone more as I still have some games on the 360 I would like to play again or complete but I guess I will see how that pans out. The Rare Replay thing actually looks really great, 30 Rare Ware games for 30 bucks? sounds like great value to me, even if there are some stinkers in the package. The Sony conference really seem to nail it down for a lot of gamers, the hat-trick of a Final Fantasy VII remake, Shenmue 3 and The Last Guardian? some pretty big bombs to drop if you ask me, and I will happily eat crow about The Last Guardian, I honestly thought that was vapor ware. As for Nintendo's show, I honestly thought they had the best presentation with the Jim Henson puppets, loved seeing that shit, but yeah, the content of the show was hugely lacking. Loved how the new Star Fox looks, is it how I would have really loved to see the series go after 64 so I am hoping it lives up the hype I am building up for it in my head. As for the likes of Mario Maker, that game is looking amazing to me, the amount of stuff you could do with the game looks amazing yet incredibly fun, I cannot wait to play with that one either. As for the rest of Nintendo's? I think if they held back the Earth Bound Beginings annoucement and the Smash DLC till Tuesday there show could have of had a whole lot more punch but hey, its over.
And with the good of E3 comes the bad, a dog I have had for the past 15 years, Sweep, had to be put down. She suffered a stroke which left her paralyzed and somehow in this awful mess managed to get an infection. Despie the vet giving her a huge dose of antibiotics and keeping her on a drip it was a losing battle, the most humane thing to do was to put her down. While I never found the idea of doing the right thing as being sad, the memories that come flooding back were. I remember how when
she was a puppy how she used to fit in my hand, how she used to struggle getting up the stairs or how at a midnight when I would come home from work she would pester me to feed her some cheese on toast. I miss her still and feel sad about the way that she went but that is life, all things must pass.
So moving onto a happier note, Amiibo hunting, this month I managed to snag a Meta Knight and a Rosalina + Luma, Ness and a Lucina. The Mrs has wanted the Rosalina Amiibo for so long
already we was quite delighted when we managed to get her at a decent price, so all I can say is fuck Target exclusives. As for Ness and Lucina, I got lucky being able to get them at retail price at AmiAmi, I was delighted when they came because it seemed like 3 weeks after ordering them they confirmed that they had them.
Anyway so the Steam summer sales hey? I was pretty disappointed by them this year, a lot of eh games going for about 7 dollars a pop, usually those eh ones I would budge at 5 dollars but for a majority of them I just wasn't feeling them. I have been interested in getting the DLC for Resident Evil 5 since that came on Steam but I don't want to pay the 12-15 bucks Capcom want to charge for it, I mean shit I didn't even pay 12 bucks for Resident Evil 5 on Steam. The games I did end up getting however were Metal Slug X and Final Fantasy III, and I only ended up Final Fantasy III because it was a "fuck it, I didn't get anything else" kind of deal. GOG however managed to win me over on some deals , I ended up getting a click n point adventure Toonstruck, Tales From The Borderlands and Don't Starve for the wife. Toonstruck I was very surprised at because from my experience , it could have probably competed with any of Lucasarts classic point and clicks of the day. It featured a lot of talent in the game ranging from Christopher Lloyd to various voice actors like Dan Castellaneta and whoever did the voice of the 2 of the Animaniacs. For my 5 bucks I was delightfully surprised how cool this game was, but by the end you can start seeing where it was obvious some cuts were made to the game and apparently this ends up a victim of the cliffhanger culture where a sequel was planned but got the funding pulled away due to the original underperforming. As for Tales From The Borderlands, so far I am really enjoying it, I have done 3 episodes so far I can say I am enjoying it a lot more than season 2 of The Walking Dead, the characters seem to be bright and vibrant and the Borderlands sets itself well for a world that could be expanded well via these games. Being a bit excited and impatient I also managed to get Arkham Knight for 22 bucks on Steam, now I know what you are thinking, shit port, although on my rig the game is somewhat playable, but not ideal, lol. I get frame drops while driving the batmobile. A recent patch has added back in the AO and rain effects but 22 bucks was cheaper than buying 400 or whatever bucks for a new console, lol. I think Warner Bros have done the right thing pulling the game from sale on Steam until they get these issues fixed, although yeah, at the same time there is no way it should have launched on Windows in the state it did.
To go along with those sales I managed to end up getting Hyrule Warriors and Kirby and The Rainbow Curse on the Wii U, both for a fantastic 33 bucks, was quite proud of that deal. Hyrule Warriors despite some of the love/hate reviews I have seen, I really found myself enjoying a lot. The action is fast, the game is fun but my only problem with it seems to be the framerate dipping when shit gets intense. As for Kirby, I think I got it for the right price, the co-op is good fun and the artstyle of the game is pretty amazing to look at.
Seeing as we are on the subject of the Wii U, I managed to finish the story mode of Splatoon. All I can say on the subject is the final boss was an amazing battle. I have been playing the multiplayer less lately but I imagine it will only be time again before I get into it once more.
For online, I have been getting back into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. I managed to improve my rank by 3 levels finally bringing me up to G Rank. I couldn't have made it without Terranigma's help, now I got a whole new world of beasts and pain to discover, lol. Still I have clocked just under 150 hours on the game now, not bad at all for me on a game, seems excellent value for buying it on day one too.
Right, as for now that is about all I can arsed to share with you lot, I am sure I am due for a quiet month now so lets find out next month, till then.
